Visual prompt - “Last Train”
The night started simple enough when he got a cryptic text from Klaus.
“Meet me at the club, 9PM.”
They met for date night at the club every once in a while, but they usually planned the outing in advance. This time it was spur of the moment.
It had been over a week since they saw each other. His classes kept him busy. Klaus didn’t seem to mind, since he stayed responsive to Steffan’s texts.
Steffan got there early, while the first DJ was halfway through their set. The anticipation of seeing Klaus made him jumpy and excited. The leopard eyed the entrance as he bobbed to the music. Nine came and went. Around ten, he received another text from Klaus.
“Something came up.”
Steffan’s excitement turned sour, leaving a pit in his stomach. He left the club and meandered down the street as he texted back. No replies came. Then he called directly. It immediately went to voicemail.
He shoved his phone back in his leather jacket pocket and headed for the nearest underground station. He was so preoccupied second guessing his recent texts with Klaus, he nearly missed the waiting train.
A chime rang, warning the empty platform the doors were closing. Steffan sprinted from the base of the stairs and boarded the metro. The tip of his tail narrowly avoided the door as they whisked together.
He sighed and checked his phone. Still no messages. He paced the aisle of the empty car as it zoomed through the tunnel. His mind was a jumble as emotions surfaced. He wondered how everything ended up at this point.
Steffan leaned against the edge of the door and flipped through his phone. The more he checked his social media, the more frustrated he felt. When he could not stand to look at his phone any more, he sighed and let his hand drop.
Steffan stared aimlessly through the metro windows. The lights streaking by reminded him of the flashing lights at the club.

Good story, building the tension before the inevitable letdown, with a disappointed/frustrated journey home.
I thought it matched the vibe I got from the visual. I usually try not to let my pieces end in a dark place.
Well done short, despite the frustrations of reality sometimes. Everyone one be shaming me, I be working on stuff slow burn.
