i see! it's totally fine. random question by the way, how do you do saliva? like, i keep trying to mek it faintly transparent but never managed to be like yours. do you add a seperate layer or do you just draw over the painting? also, if its not too much to ask, what kind of software do you use to draw? ive been using paint tool sai for a very long time but i feel like i wanna experience something new. <3
Hrm I do admit I spend more time trying to figure out how to draw such "important" things than others haha, but it follows the same principle as anything else. Every material has the same properties like translucency, reflectiveness etc., even a rock is translucent actually which you notice if you slice it thin enough. Drool behaves no different from other very translucent objects like glass or so in the sense that it has a lensing effect and high reflectiveness (google fresnel effect for cool infos).
So, on the side where light shines in, things behind under the surface appear darkened while the light gets focused on the opposite side where it appears intensified. My easy solution is to use a multiply layer for the darkening and an overlay layer for the light part haha, you can do that with any program, even SAI. Now I mentioned there is also a reflectiveness, so add a high light where the light shines in (=the dark side) and remember to reflect surrounding colors, too. Btw, it means eyes work the same way as drool and I draw em with the same principle ;D
Oh, and I use Photoshop, but it's more of a habit and liking the functions~
