I've been working on this piece for months, I hope you all enjoy it! It's definitely an adventure, hope it leaves an impact. Quite refreshing to write a SFW TF Novella for a change!
If you liked the story be sure to favorite, comment, or watch. Knowing people enjoy my work is what motivates me to keep writing.
If feedback is positive, I may expand this piece into a full-length novel.

The Reeling is one of my favorite Passion Pit songs and was playing on repeat while I wrote this piece. Maybe it's a stretch, but I've always found the lyrics to have strong TF energy lol.
Wow.
you combined two of my favorite things, the apocalypse and weird crazy shit. I love this story so much!
And yes, it is nice to write some SFW stuff now and then.

A much welcomed SFW palate cleanser just full of weird adventures!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the story!
Always more to come.

I’m only up to part three, but from what I’ve read so far (and in particular, the super intriguing setting!) I can be pretty confident in hitting the +fav button right now, haha.
I’ll be sure to finish reading this and check out the song tomorrow!

Let me know what you think when you finish it haha
I definitely had a ton of fun crafting the setting, plenty of time spent crafting the specific themes I wanted to weave through the narrative.

(Paraphrased, I’ve lost the original draft of this comment, haha)
After finishing the story, I can confirm that my confidence was well placed. The setting remained compelling throughout, and each of the mini-adventures that made up the story really helped to flesh it (and the characters!) out.
Your comedic dialog (which is frequently a highlight in your stories for me) really shines in the interactions between the main character and Caitlin, their dynamic is really cute. Another major highlight was the ending, which I found very satisfying. I’m glad the main character was able to find closure with the whole “turning everyone they care about into canines” thing, and, of course, with Macy.
…and I’m really glad that closure came in the form of getting turned into a coyote, because I’m always down for (and jealous of) that, haha.

Very good story, it reminiscent of Moorcock' Eternal Warrior saga. With doomed hero who has to travel between places to resolve problems, but not in a way he wants.
...Wow.
You absolutely NAILED the atmosphere here. Reading this felt like I was constantly unbalanced, completely unsure of what would come next. The way so much of the setting is lightly referenced but unexplained, which would normally be a negative for a story, here contributes to that atmosphere of uncertainty. This is an incredibly atmospheric story, and I quite enjoyed it.

Atmosphere. 100% what I was going for, a general sense of unease where the reader knows just enough to mentally visualize the "what" but not enough to understand the "why". Sure some questions are eventually answered but many aren't, and hopefully that leaves something for the reader to ponder after finishing.
The framework exists for me to enlarge this story from a novella to a novel, and yet I'm a little hesitant to do that because explaining too much might take away from the reading experience and would certainly drag the pacing. Pros and cons to each approach.
I also tried to make sure that when the story did stop to breathe, the emphasis was always on character dynamics and relationships. I do love me some dialogue banter.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Maybe you could expand on the weird adventure without necessarily explaining them, add more intervening TFs, and only explain the core plot points (like the villain; that was one of the few things where the lack of explanation took me out of the story a bit) without explaining them all the way? Explaining the core plot a bit more would help to get me a bit more invested without ruining the mystique, and adding some more intervening "episodes" and TFs would help hold attention for a longer length while not overexplaining things (and also give me more of your TF writing to boot).
Character dynamics are absolutely one of your strongest suits. It really hit me emotionally when *sad moment obvious to anyone who read the story but not spoiling it for comment-readers who haven't yet read the story*; like, I genuinely just stared at my screen for a solid half-a-minute. You really built up the relationship exceptionally well before dropping that bomb.

Mmm... I wouldn't say canines are his only thing. I dare say that gorgonopsid was fossilized before he walked by that rock.
Ha, yeah one of these days I'm going to write a gorgonopsid TF story. It's on my to-do list.
That’d definitely be interesting to see someone besides me write a Gorgonopsid tf story and post it on FA!
It took me a while to get around to this one but I'm very glad I did. I will always be a fan of this premise where the rules of reality are changing and you're never sure of what's going to happen next. It reminds me in that respect of dankedonuts' 'Shattered Realities, Altered Bodies' series, though your decision to take us through different settings as part of a cohesive journey helps make the world feel bigger and well-developed. Speaking of which, I think you really nailed the pacing, we got what was important out of each new location in the story and it never felt like things were becoming dull for lingering in one place too long.
You also did well to bring the contrast in the different characters. It was refreshing to see Caitlin's joy in her transformation compared to Gus' anger; it felt like the protagonist's well-deserved pick-me-up after so much suffering on the way.
I like a happy ending, and I was glad to see this one finish with some cautious hope for the future. Great read!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Of all the pieces I wrote in 2022, I think this one might be my favorite. Had a real blast writing all the *High Strangeness* and really letting my creativity out.
Plus the story sorta connects with a few others of mine... The "Marquis Orias Shared Universe" I guess.
Might not be the last time we see these characters.

I've only now finished reading thus story and. Man. This is so so so wonderful!! I love this story so much, and not only for the tf parts. The weird world, the poetic tragedy of it all, it's so perfect, wonderful work!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm glad this story left an impact!
