Story written by the commissioner, might help explain things a touch better!
And then there was cake
It was just another day, like every day before. The short husky was on his way to school, even though he'd forgotten where his classroom was and what subjects he had today.
He was nervous, there was something important which he should remember and he just point his finger on it it.
A nagging feeling in the back of his head constantly kept him pondering. What was going on, why couldn't he remember what he was doing just now - and didn't he graduate from that school?
He was right, he was a student - and his next lecture would take place in the classroom! He should hurry, he was already late and it could take a few minutes for him to find the correct room.
Still, there was more to the situation as a whole, more pressing matters to respect.
Why was he going to his old school for lectures and not to university?
Something was off, he couldn't even remember how he got here in the first place. All these things didn't add up.
A burning suspicion spread through his mind. Could this...? If it was... it would make perfect sense that nothing made sense...
He looked at his fingers on his left paw, slowly counting each and every one, touching the finger he just looked at with his right index finger... one... two... three... four... five... six... sevvvvwwwait a minute.
"I'm dreaming."
The sudden realisation set in and hit him like a lemon wrapped brick. He was dreaming, everything that was important until that very moment was just made up by his mind.
Exhilarated he started looking around. The amount of details that were suddenly presented to him were nearly overwhelming. Every last tiny thing that was happening right now, seemed absurdly detailed and the sheer amount of things that were happening around him were mind-blowing.
Yet, nothing was real, everything was a figment of his imagination.
"I'm dreaming!", he shouted, "I'm dreaming!"
Excitedly he spread his wings, feeling the soft wind tugging on his fur and feathers as he set off.
There was so much to see, so much happening - too much. He needed a more secluded place to have a few seconds for himself. Distractions were the last thing he needed right now - now that he had the power to do everything he wanted to do, being able to shape the dream to his liking.
He spotted a small clearing ahead and descended slowly, still shouting to keep focused and lucid.
As he landed on the soft and finely textured grass, he stretched out his right arm out of his view.
He expected to have a piece of chocolate cake in his hand, thought about how heavy it would be and how the plate would feel like. While he was thinking about the details, he noticed that his paw felt heavy and that he was in fact holding a piece of cake.
He smiled. He still got it and now he had absolute freedom to do what he wanted.
...just as long as he didn't forget...
Picture was kind of tough for me... I knew the background was going to be tricky. Fortunately I managed to talk him out of a completely urban landscape, as I would have totally ruined that xD Still, this was a tricky one for me, and I had to cheat as much as possible to get even what I did, heh. All the same I hope it worked out alright. Bit different from my usual stuff, but I hope it's allright :3

Actually, this made me think more about this...

It could be seen as a metaphor for the slow and subtle loss of control and lucidity as well as all the dark and nightmarish things that can happen in a dream.
Or it could just be a tentacle/goo thing, depends on how naughty your thoughts are and what your first thought was, because - hey! it's a dream! Do what you want and stuff :)

Oh wow, your artistic quality never ceases to amaze me. :}==< You catched this story and feeling so well, the whole scenery is just so...authentic, as far as the depiction of a dream can be. :P
Also, the black tentacle thing in the ground is really awesome. The dark, shapeless loss of control always lurking just behind the senses and creeping up on an unaware dreamer...
One of the greatest sceneries you drew so far.

Lucid dreaming is one of the best things for Furries. IF you can control it. Sure he was able to make a piece of cake from thin air, but it's a big dream-world. Any loss of focus and you could lose your control or wake up. He's got wings, but that dark tentacle is always creeping up on him, ready to steal him from lucidity if he loses focus for even an instant.
I've done a lot of lucid dreaming. You can BE your fursona if you do it right.

Don't trick yourself, thinking that it's a big dream world or even a world at all. There is no substance around you, no persistence. There only "is" where you look at. It's not like you're in some kind of virtual world :)
Interestingly, I'm not that often lucid as I was - but all that dream control and daydreaming has left a permanent mark: I have the ability to control my dreams, without even knowing that I'm dreaming in the first place :)

You've already made the first step. Now that you've done it, you can do it again. You will get better at it as you would like any other skill.
A few guidelines:
What you expect to see, you will see. This works both ways. What you are looking for, you won't find.
Make "reality checks" a habit. Even when you're awake. You can eventually learn to sense the dream state.
You're always in control. It's your mind. Your world, your fantasy. Your will be done. Patrick Stewart says, "Make it so."
When you wake up, it'll help you to remember if you take notes. I'm not saying to write a detailed dream diary, but maybe a few keywords to help jog your memory that you can look back on once in a while.
When you're settling in, think about what you want to dream about. You likely will.

I fail at the basic level (dreaming), so I'm not able to do dream control and such things. Sound quite nice, but I'm just looking through the windows.
I'm not sure what your three names refer to, but it sounds like things which you could actually verify. As in, if you can control your dream (so it's not random) and you can share it (so you have an observer) then by taking notes it should be possible to see whether it really works.
I'd be curious to know a bit more about this. If you can explain it a bit, please? I'll never be able to feel it myself, so it might be a bit like explaining color to a colorblind.

Some people claim to be able to experience the same dream together and share it. I have personally only experienced this twice, but I'll never know if we were truly sharing the dream or just dreaming about the same thing by coincidence.
Astral Projecting is like an out of body experience. People claim that they can visit places in spirit. I don't think I've ever really done this. My dreams are really vivid though and I get Deja Vu all the time.
Attaining Universal Awareness is what meditation is trying to achieve. To sort of "become one" with everything and erase the self. Very Zen. I meditate from time to time, but I never dream during meditation. Meditating in a dream is much more effective, but I'd rather spend my dream time as my fursona :3

I'd be very interested in expanding my knowledge of the world, though I'm firmly based in an scientific world view. I'll take Ockham's razor says to take "the simplest" explanaition - that is the one which can be constructed from everything which is already known. Only if that's not enough, if evidence shows that we don't know enough and cannot explain it, extend our knowledge. So in your case, and only two occurences, it might really have been coincidence.
I'm open to thinking there might be more out there, more we know currently or have discovered yet. But whatever we find, it can surely be described, reproduced, and finally understood. I often wonder why many who claim to experience 'unnatural' things refuse to think in a scientific way. For scientists it looks like there actually is no substance to their claims - but it's not refusing facts, but just unverifiable claims.
I, myself, spend my nighttime, uhm... sleeping.
But if you can use that time to experience your fursona, you're lucky :)

The times when we had the same dreams was weird, and a little awkward after we woke up. I don't wanna make that a regular thing.
Out of body experiences don't interest me. Why would I want to go someplace if I could only experience it with half my senses?
I've experimented with meditation and deep relaxation, but I haven't attained unity with anything more than my immediate surroundings.

Great background and pose, but I've gotta say, those wings are just FANTASTIC! They are very luminous and airy, but they have a level of detail and lighting that makes them a strong part of the image. Further, the arc and overall shape of the wings are very exciting! The collar nestles very nicely into his fur, giving a very realistic effect. You anatomy, sense of light, foliage, and fur are spot-on! About the only part of the drawing I find myself able to offer a critique on is the sky in the background. Although the colors and shading are accurate, the formations seem a bit too ordered and delineated to be the random shapes of the clouds. Ugh, I hate drawing cloudy skies for that same reason. >_<
Also, I love lucid dreaming, which sounds like what the story describes. Anyways, great stuff! *bows respectfully*
