The second commission, completed simultaneously with "Field Maintenance." The client was extremely pleased with the final result, and very helpful in making the piece work as well as it did. Of the two commissions, this one practically fell into place, and the background came out just as I'd hoped.
The image is of Strovik, something of a Paladin in his universe as it was described. His background was rather interesting, and this image just naturally fell into place. The text was a quote by the character that was included in the description, and I felt it fitting.
The locket was an idea of mine, to give some depth (since he is a plot-driven character in a story). It is a small image of his mother and father, the latter who sacrificed himself to save his wife and newborn son. The event was important to the story, so I felt Strovik's remembrance of his family needed to be present.
Locket image will be put into my scraps section (though it's really just a rough sketch).

Stunning. I like how the reflection of the background colours in the subject is balance by the blue of his cap and eyes used in the awning and flag. And the use of the lockett is brilliant. Do you calculate out ahead of time howyou will structure your use of colour, or is it more inspiration during execution?
