The way I cheese doing clothing ports is to import the mesh with its original armature and reshape the armature to match as closely to my body as possible then apply the armature modifier and unparent from the original armature.
Then I reshape it as needed before I parent to my armature, clear the vertex weights (minus custom bones like a hat or scarf) and then do a quick data transfer from my body to the clothes and clean them as needed.
