Here is another belt knife I made. This one is made from a section of the outer race of a large bearing.
My neighbor, who is a diesel mechanic, gives me a bunch of them because they're either never used or come off as throw aways.
The material is 52100 steel, which makes for a very good knife that has excellent edge retention.
The handle is made from a section of wheelbarrow handle, but the species of wood is different from the other selection of tossed out wheel barrow handles I've salvaged. It's really nice looking, though.
The sheath has a wooden case inside to add rigidity to the whole unit.
When I was about done with blade and finished doing some light file work I heated the whole thing up and closed it between two flat pieces of wood until the blade burnt in a pocket. It was super glued together and shaved down to fit into the leather.
When the knife it sheathed it makes a nice clicking sound and is secure enough that it will not fall out even if I shake it while upside-down.

Heh, that's nifty! I have a pesky piece of what seems to be high carbon steel I should send you, darned tough to arc weld.
Makes sense that is might be. Though I've welded 5160 with arc welder
You are a true artist, and I appreciate your eye for recycling and repurposing :)
