I have a fascination with the ancient history of the UK and what remains of it, and I think it's important that we preserve it. I was inspired to write this song when I learnt that the Brittonic languages (of which Welsh is the largest surviving) were here before any others. I have family in rural Scotland and have had a strong link to it, where a lot of ancient traditions have survived in the culture, even as society has changed. There's a lot of importance placed on heritage and ancestry, in that you are carrying on the legacy of those who came before you. In an uncertain world, it's nice to have a sense of who you are.
Lyrics:
Chorus:
Strange, we know the change is strange
And we must rearrange, come on, come on
x2
Verse 1:
Born into a world our grandparents still knew
A link from past to future, ancestors live through you
Languages change, society rearranged
We share this world where others stood, not so far estranged
Repeat chorus
Verse 2:
In constant motion, this world is not your own
Through fields and oceans, our forebears would've known
Their words live on, on the printed page
Endless shifting sands of time, flow from a golden age
Repeat Chorus:
(Wordless harmonies)
