I thought it would be fun to do another one of these to lead into Pokemon Month, and I also got an absolutely insane idea a little while back for one that I could do, so I did it. This time, I beat Pokemon Sun with just a Salamence named FINALLY!!!!!
So to those of you who don't know, it became a pretty well known thing back when Sun and Moon came out that you can actually find a wild Salamence through an SOS encounter with Bagon at a hilariously low level pretty early in the game, so I thought it would be funny to do a playthrough of the game with one of those Salamences. However, because you have to do most of Melemele Island to get to the point where you can find Bagon, and Bagon itself only has a 1% encounter rate in a specific patch of grass and also has low odds to call an SOS Pokemon, and the actual calling of the SOS Pokemon doesn't always work and the odds of Salamence showing up are insanely low, this was probably the most time consuming of all the single-Pokemon playthroughs I've done to actully set up because I had to take an entire sitting to get to the point in the game where I could get it and also took a couple more sittings of wild encounters and SOS-chaining until a Salamence finally showed up (hence why I named the one I got "FINALLY!!!!!" :3).
As for how the rest of the playthrough went, I actually found that it wasn't as easy as I initially thought it would be. Most of the regular trainers and in between stuff were really easy, but there were a few battles throughout the game that took some additional grinding for me to do because they had a Pokemon that could one-shot me such as Olivia's Lycanroc, Hala's Crabominable, and Acerola's Froslass. One other thing I noticed while I was playing through the game that made it a bit more of a challenge too is that even though I was always technically over-leveled at pretty much every point in the game, up to a certain point, I kinda flat-lined at being about 10 levels higher than everyone else and stayed that way for a long time, and I think that's because there aren't as many regular trainers scattered throughout the region as there are in the previous games, and it also doesn't have the Exp Candies that were introduced in the following games to make up for it either. I did however eventually start giving a full team of Pokemon Pokebeans to get Rare Candies from the guy at the Pokemon Center, and I also did one last giant grinding session at the end of the game to be able to beat the league, so I did still over-level myself enough to beat the game, I just didn't expect to have to grind as much as I did to do it.
