Right, first one of the year. We've got stuff here that I acquired over December and January, and with Christmas, it's a lot lol
Legacy Inferno
And Inferno completes my Beast Wars season 1 collection! He's a very vibrant figure and man he is SO much better than the original - I especially love the fact they gave him jaw articulation. I kinda wish he had a proper flamethrower though, and he suffers from a lack of articulated bug legs like Waspinator.
Legacy Motormaster
Snagged him on sale, although he was even cheaper after that oof. Honestly? trailer-of-goodies aside (we'll get to that later) he's a pretty mediocre voyager-scale figure. Like he does everything fine, but nothing about his engineering blows my mind like Rodimus from last year.
Legacy Skullgrin
This is a figure that is controversial to a lot of people within the fandom, and yeah I get it. His articulation is severely limited and his vehicle mode is kinda ass (it's just like, a slab of nothing), but he's very, very photogenic (I feel like in large part due to his weapons), and I feel like they blended the bot design with the pretender shell design well. I know some people don't think they did, and yeah Iguanus and Bomburst did it better, but he's still pretty cool. Definitely better than the Power of the Primes figure lol
Legacy Evolution Breakdown
So, the final Stunticon. There's a little story going with this one - I felt kinda sick but it was a friend's birthday, and I felt like I was recovering so I chucked some pills back and went to go stay with him a couple days. I IMMEDIATELY got much worse and basically spent the entire two days dead to the world. We did manage to get out to the city centre on my way home, and that's where I got this guy. The next day he texted me to say he got COVID, but fortunately I tested and I didn't, so I likely just had something less-shite. Anyway this guy is pretty mediocre? I probably wouldn't have got him if not for completionism. He's a pretty straighforward retool of Wildrider.
Legacy Menasor
With all five Stunticons, we can form Menasor - Motormaster as the torso, Wildrider and Breakdown as legs, and Dragstrip and Deadend as arms. Motormaster's trailer forms the "skeleton" the whole guy is built around, which is a very clever way of doing it, since in the show, Menasor is mostly just a larger Motormaster with the other guys slapped on. If you have the four other Stunticons, they make Motormaster absolutely worth it. I still kinda want the upgrade kit though, as his weapons could use some polish.
Studio Series 1986 Sweep
So I'm just gonna use this guy as Scourge because he's a pain to get and nigh-identical. Honestly, there isn't much I could say about him that couldn't also be applied to other SS86 figures. He's extremely screen-accurate somehow without sacrificing simplicity. I appreciate that he's also one of the few figures that comes with a blast effect packed in. I managed to snag this guy for like, half price.
Studio Series Creatures Collide Scorponok
So, I never intended to get the CC pack, because it's 75% repaints of stuff I already own. BUT, the same guys I got the Sweep from had it slashed by 80%, meaning I could get the entire four-pack for the price of one figure of the same scale. Scorponok is the least interesting of the pack since he's just the 1996 toy deco of the character, which I already have the accurate show deco of. It's more of a novelty, if anything.
Studio Series Creatures Collide Skywasp
Skywasp is argueably more interesting than toy-deco Scorponok, but only because he's a new character. Otherwise he's a fairly straight repaint of Waspinator, which was probably the weakest figure in Kingdom. Still, it's a cool repaint.
Studio Series Creatures Collide Goldbug
So Goldbug here is the upgraded form of Bumblebee. He thus uses the Bumblebee form of the mold (which I already have the Cliffjumper version of). He's a cute little fella and maybe my favourite of the set? I might sell Cliffjumper and have him as the main form of that mold. I think the gold paint really helps - and dear god I hope what I'd heard about Gold stuff in the fandom being not-shit anymore was true.
Studio Series Creatures Collide Ransack
This guy is the one figure in the CC pack that I didn't have the original figure of (Kickback), and so he was my main focus. Like I thought he's not too interesting as a figure, but he's surprisingly photogenic, in large part due to those big ass yellow weapon things.
APC Toys Night Countess/ 3rd Party Prime Airachnid
So, this figure is very cool but I have beef with APC now, as they didn't include one of the sets of her spider legs. So I had to spend forever figuring out the missing parts form. It's probably gonna take months for anything to happen. Anyway, the original Prime Airachnid is kinda infamously shit, and APC mostly just rereleases Prime figures (with dubious legality), but even they knew this so here we are. Honestly, it's weird having a third party figure that isn't a Masterpiece-style figure. I can see why Hasbro didn't make her like this, as the figure is kinda fiddly, but she's very well made for her size. I feel like she'd fit well into any Prime collection.
Legacy Evolution Lio Convoy
Fursuit Prime here is the leader of the Maximals in the Japanese spin-off of Beast Wars, Beast Wars II. He's much more clearly a big, imposing leader figure, compared to Optimus Primal, who feels like he literally grows into the role as the show goes on. Once again, he's very photogenic but there are issues - he has a lot of shit hanging off him, the lion face is dopey as fuck, and the lion form articulation is lacking. Still, this may be one of the few figures I double dip on - they just announced a figure of his evil version who is a cute little bastard who eats dirt.
Deformation Space Crimson Wings/ 3rd Party Masterpiece Starscream
DS01 here is infamous for being very fiddly to transform, and that is absolutely true. He's not necessarily complex, but the razor-thin clearance on some steps makes him a bit of a nightmare to convert. Still, he's just as accurate as the official MP Starscream, except way cheaper, and he's actually more articulated. He fits great onto my Generation 1 masterpiece shelf.
