"Alright, mister... Sirocco, was it? Please remove all of your clothing before stepping into the decontamination chamber."
"Ah-WHAT!?" the hare sputtered and protested. It was bad enough that he had to put his Pokemon in storage, and he couldn't help but feel naked without the familiar weight of six Pokeballs on his belt.
"Yes, as I'm sure you read when signing the release," the pine marten quirked an eyebrow at him, scanning for his reaction, "This situation is very delicate. We can't have outside contaminants, pathogens, or possible allergic substances coming in contact with the subject. As always, your cooperation is voluntary and you may back out at any time."
The hare nodded. He hadn't actually read the release. He's just signed at the bottom for the study and accepted his bonus of 50 Rare Candies and a Masterball. A bloody Masterball! Those things were rarer than some Legendaries, and they were just giving them out!! Whoever funded this study must've been RIFE with Pokédollars!
With a heavy sigh, Sirocco shakes his head and gets to work doffing his clothing. Despite their professional and clinical act, he was pretty sure he caught the pine marten and her assistant stealing a few glances. That was a nice little ego boost - one which helped propel him into the first chamber. With a muted 'swoosh', the door seals behind him. The chamber was like the inside of an egg - clean, pearl-hued, and not altogether unwelcoming. A grid of lasers scan over his nude form, and he does his best to hold still for them.
Two small hatches on either side swish open, releasing a pair of robotic arms that spray him down with a dusty sort of substance. This is followed by a pair of heating panels lighting up on either side of him. They were thorough, to be sure!
After what felt like ten full minutes of poking, prodding, measuring, and treating, the door opposite the one he'd entered from swooshes open, leading to a dark hallway. The hare proceeded in, if only because a sign lit up telling him to do so, and followed the dim lights along the floor. The hallway angled and curved, but in some ways, it was a nice change to be away from the cameras and scanners and who-knows-what-else!
He turns a corner and finds himself near to the hallway's end - a wide arch from which vibrant daylight could beat back the mustiness of the corridor! As his eyes begin to adjust to the brightness, he could make out all manner of Pokemon scurrying about their daily lives. From the Ambipom in the tree to the Pikachu stealing his berries, many of them were considerably larger than any he had ever seen! As draws closer to the arch, he notices something else curious - they all had a unique sheen to them. It was a highly reflective shine that almost reminded him beachballs, or maybe the paint on a car.
Fascinated by these strange variants, Sirocco wandered past the threshold of the arch to get a better look. A soft chime binged above him, and something like a floodgate released a torrent of... something... down over him! The hare sputters and grapples with the gooey substance now clinging to his fur! "What the heck!?"
The stuff almost seemed... alive!! Not only was it warm, but it pulsed in a slow, gentle rhythm not unlike a creature's breathing! It was surprisingly resistant to being pulled apart, and no amount of clawing or tugging could get it off of him! Stranger still, the tar-like substance seemed to be... shaping itself. Large hunks of pooled around Sirocco's paws, covering them over and spreading out into huge sails! He holds up his palms, almost slapping himself with the wing-like appendages, and realizes his blunt digging claws have become dangerous, crimson points!
A flash of panic inspires him to run back for the gate, only to become tanged up by the huge mass of goo that has settled around his hips and legs. It seemed to force and unfamiliar style of walking on his otherwise agile, jackrabbit leaps, and the hare soon finds himself stumbling down onto his knees. He curses and calls out for help, and a few Pokemon seem to hear him and scamper over. As he pushes himself up onto his hands and knees, he can see them all... clapping? Cheering? Waving? What was UP with these weird Pokemon!?
"Vern!!! Vernvern, NOI!!!"
He gives a sharp gasp. That wasn't what he was saying!!! He tried to repeat himself, or sing, or say anything other than his, but the chunk of goo he'd swallowed seemed to be acting like a filter of sorts, reducing his entire vocabulary to just that word!
To... his... name.
"Noooi-vurrrrrrr..."
A tendril of the stuff had found its way into his ears, filling his head with a... dull... pleasant... kind of music. A song. No, more a feeling. Warm. Relaxing. Vern-ish. Noinoi- verrrn.
A big, content grin spreads across his face as the goo shapes itself above his head.
"Subject 715-B," a speaker from somewhere and a familiar name boomed out those vaguely familiar words. Weird. Noivern remembered that number. His number. "Please respond. How are you feeling, Sirocco?"
The muzzle of the gooey head glomped closed over the jackrabbit, shaping and twisting to perfectly accommodate its new host. Once both of them were comfortable, the new Noivern opened his eyes. And raises his great, bat-like wings to reply in a merry, sing-song kind of way.
"Vernver! Noivern!!"
Wewt!! Second time as a Noivern! Maybe this round, it'll STICK! X3
I'm always really happy to see him show up in other games. Not only is Noivern a very cool Pokemon, but he's kind of a dragon for the masses. Typically, Dragon types in Pokemon are some snooty Legendary or hard-to catch pseudo-legendary. Anyone can be a Water or Bug type trainer, but unless you're an endgame boss or from some heroic bloodline, Dragon types seem beyond the scope of most normal trainers.
That's why Noivern is kind of cool - he evolves from Noibat, a very common Pokemon found in just about any cave. He's a good Pokemon, too! I'm just glad to see him and others like Altaria, Cyclizar, Flapple, and Tatsugiri making Dragons more accessible! ^_^
