Rodent didn't see the need to worry about the deer, Arnost, heading toward him. After all, deer are not carnivores and are generally friendly and watch where they're stepping. What he didn't expect however, was for Arnost to not by your typical deer, and for him to enjoy the taste and feel of wriggling critters going down his gullet. It seems as if trying to remind the deer that it was not a carnivore, did little to dissuade it from making a snack out of the rat. It seems as if the next time Rodent would be seen, it would be as nothing more than a pile of foul-smelling deer pellets on the ground somewhere. ^_^

And IRL, deer will catch and eat wild mice. Especially during antler growing season. They don't hunt them, per say, but if they come across one while they are grazing, chomp and gulp.
