Been doing a lot of work lately on the "background" of Dirty South and Lavender County. I've been designing neighbors but i've also been designing TOWNSFOLK, the people you'd meet living there.
Second is the Bernhard family. Dirk, or "Boss" as Nico knows him (even though he no longer is employed with him and also knows his first name), is the owner of Dixie Tobacco, a local cigarette and wine store in the county. Dirk is a big man with a big personality and a big temper, but somewhere under all that bulk is probably a good heart, too. The money is good, but he hates the stress of the job. He can't keep employees, he feels like he's always dealing with some sort of stress, and his young and beautiful wife who totally didn't marry him for his money is a pain in his ass and he feels like he can't ever get a break from it all. As a result, he's chronically angry, chronically tired, and often fusses over the small shit.
Dirk brings Nico on as an employee after...hiring him for...another job entirely...and finding out that the fox needs actual employment. Nico turns out to be a fairly useful employee at Dixie, but he drinks at work. Often. Dirk knows this, and doesn't care, but after numerous complaints from customers that the fox smelled of booze, Nico was regretfully terminated from his position. Even Dirk didn't want to fire him, and was apologetic about the legalities and whatnot. They still speak, though connections are...tense.
Charlotte is a blogger, one of those that always seems to be getting paid to review products as a "stay at home wife". How she even got her platform TO review things is a mystery, but it probably had something to do with a lot of instagram posting before she started a separate blog. She's spunky, she's a go-getter, and she often goes out to concerts without Dirk while spending his money. She totally loves him, though, honest.
