We were in Galveston this past weekend at the Tall Ships festival. There were four of these lovely ships in port and available for tour, and I visited every one of them and explored as much as I could!
Great fun!

Well, I'd say that ol' Spanish galleon isn't so much tall as bent, like Moby Dick sat on it.
What a delightful question! The Ernestina-Morrisey, since I once lectured about polar explorers and she was a polar explorer. She even took supplies to Greenland during WWII!
Nice! That galleon is amazing as to how really big it is when compared to the steepness of the deck angle. Still need to get down to Galveston to visit the Stewart.
Love the Galleon and I believe that is the Elissa docked near it. Been aboard that one several times. I always ask "Permission to come aboard."
Official Tall Ship of Texas. I miss Galveston - was doing some research there at one point for an early History Thesis topic. Topic didn't pan out but at least I got to Galveston a few times. Wanted to do research on the 1st Texas Heavy Artillery - stationed there during the Civil War. Not a lot of surviving records and the way sandy islands change over time the sites they had been at were long gone.
The Galleon looks so archaic compared to the more modern ship to the left. I love sailing ships, but too many of my ancestors lay at the bottom of the sea for me to want to crew one.
Lovely Carrack.
Galleons are larger, without the really tall forecastle at the front.
If she had a single mast, she would be a Cog.
Sorry- tall ship geeking.

Quite all right. I know nothing about them, though I will be more interested in them going forward from today.
