The large grasslands that scattered around Muir'Beinn were, prior to the release of ley energy, the home of enormous herds of bison. Great shaggy-coated humped ungulates that meandered their way across the landscape, providing the nearby towns with much-needed fur, fat, and meat in ritual yearly hunts. After, the bison remained even though they now shared the steppes with the enormous fellshells...but scattered amongst the herds were individuals that had changed in similar ways that many of the other animals had. Covered with thick armor plating made of what looked like tree bark, their horns splitting at their ends and growing into branches. The dragons that hunted the steppes found these individuals difficult to take down, the bark softening the impact of their aerial strike and protecting the back of the bison's neck when Takaani went in for a killing bite. Their taste had changed as well, less palatable and requiring more processing. It was as though these bisark had specifically evolved to be harder for dragons and men alike to hunt them...
