Alex walked through the art studio looking at paintings throughout world history. The art studios hours were going to close in an hour so he decided to walk a little more briskly because he wanted to see them all. He saw each and every one and was about to leave until he saw an empty room with a single painting. No one seemed to notice the room so he decided to take a look. The painting was that of Minka Mark. She was standing up with an easel in one hand and a paintbrush in the other. Alex looked at the painting closely to see if someone signed it. He couldn't find anything. "I wonder who made this?" Alex said to himself.
"Beats me!" Minka Mark replied.
Alex jumped in surprise. "Who are you? How are you moving?"
Minka laughed, "I'm a monkey, silly! I have moved ever since I was born."
"But this is a painting!" Alex said.
"The painting is a portal to my reality." Minka said. "This painting only appears to those who are needed to help someone else. No one else can see it."
"So, I am the only one who can see this painting." Alex clarified.
"You got it!" Minka said.
"Okay, so what do you need me for?" Alex asked.
"Well, I have entered an art contest and I am trying to win first place. I need someone else to look at my painting to see if it is acceptable for public viewing." Minka said.
"Okay, anything else?" Alex asked.
"Actually yes, I almost forgot!" Minka said. "The art contest requires two people to team up. If I don't have a partner, I can't even think about entering (which I already did). I asked the other pets, but they are too preoccupied with other things, so you are the only one who can help me. So, what do you say?"
Alex nodded, "Okay, I'm in."
Minka replied, "Take my hand." Her hand passed right through the painting. Alex hesitated.
"Don't worry, it's not going to hurt." Minka assured him. Alex took her hand and he was pulled into the painting. As he passed through, he saw he was inside of a tunnel of swirling, colorful paint. The tunnel of paint began to transform him. His hair grew longer, and his hair were tied in bunches. Pink hair covered his body from head to toe. a monkey tail grew form his rear. His eyelashes grew longer. His clothes vanished. His feet morphed to look more like hands like a primate. Alex's gender changed from male to female. Once the transformation was done, Alex landed in an art workshop. "Welcome, Alex!" Minka smiled.
Alex found a mirror and looked at her new form. She looked nearly like Minka with the exception of her hair color which looked the same. "I love my new form!" Alex giggled. "Now, let me see your artwork! Minka showed her the painting. It was a watercolor painting of a waterfall scene.
"So, what do you think?" Minka asked.
"It looks good." Alex said. "But perhaps you should you a brighter shad of blue for the water, to make it look more realistic."
"Okay." Mink said. She corrected the painting. "Now what?"
"Change the cloudy sky to a slightly darker shade of grey. That should make it more dramatic." Alex said.
"Will do, friend!" Minka giggled as she improved the painting. "Anything else?"
"Perhaps you should change the lightbulb in the room you're using." Alex said.
"Why?" Minka asked.
"Because it is giving off a yellow light. If you use one with a white light, you can see your painting better." Alex pointed out.
"Ah, I see. Let me find a bulb so I can change it." Minka said.
"No, allow me." Alex looked through a cardboard box and found the lightbulb she was looking for. Alex turned off the light, extended her tail to unscrew the lightbulb, and replaced it with the white light bulb. Alex flipped the switch and a pure white light flooded the room.
"Wow!" Minka smiled. "Now that is an improvement." She said to Alex, "Thanks for helping me with my work, now what artwork are you entering?"
"I have an idea!" Alex smiled. She used her art skills and made a painting of two wolves on a cliff howling at the full moon. "So, what do you think?" Alex asked.
"It's so beautiful!" Mink said as a tear rolled down her eye. "I'm so glad we are art partners!"
Later at night, a few other pairs of contestants arrived with their art projects. Minka was looking nervous. Alex told her, "No matter if we win or lose, I think our artwork is first place in my eyes. Remember, whatever the judges think is their own opinions, not how much our masterpieces are worth."
"Thanks for the encouragement, Alex." Minka smiled. "Here comes the judges." A penguin and otter judge looked at their paintings, scribbled something on their clipboards, and walked away to inspect the next artwork. Eventually, the judges were done inspecting and make up their minds on the winners.
A peacock judge said, "The 1st place winners are Minka Mark and Alex!"
"Yeah!" both Minka and Alex cheered. Both their paintings got blue ribbons. The second place winners were a puffin with a painting of a steam engine passing through a prairie and his partner was an iguana with a painting of a beach scenery. They both received red ribbons. The third prize winners included a swan with a painting of a flower garden and a fox with a mountain scape. They both received white ribbons.
"Congratulations on the winners and all who participated!" the otter judge said. Everyone congratulated and thanked each other for the good artwork.
Everyone's paintings were hanged on the wall for everyone to see. Soon, Alex knew it was time to go home. "Thanks for inviting me to the art contest!" Alex said, "I need to go home. Will we ever see each other again?"
Minka said, "The portal has been known to appear to people on more than one occasion so I would think so." Minka said. Alex thanked Minka again and found the portal. She passed through and turned back to a human boy again, until the next time Alex was needed again.
