So, here's another way I like to do soldering when I'm not using the gasoline blowtorch and the copper soldering bits.
Here is an alcohol lamp and a mouth pipe.
This is basically one of the oldest versions of a blow torch you could have if you're not using the more early ones that were just fat/oils inside of a clay lamp.
The blow pipe is a copper pipe that has a hole drilled in the side at the far end that has been capped off or pinched shut. There is some distance between the hole and the capped off part so saliva can collect there instead of being spat out of the hole of the pipe.
A length of heavy gauge wire with a very very small hole drilled all the way through is inserted into the hole and then soldered on. The small hole concentrates the air blast and when put over a flame it shoots out 5 inch long jet of heat.
