Letters to Leonce the Romantic Lion: #7
Translations provided by the Avenger (Rat); both letters were written in French.
Dear President Baudin,
I live in Quebec, so the lion in charge in my case is your counterpart, Levi Peterson. It's a good thing I can speak French. Either way, my question is this: do all parallels of you and him play musical instruments, or at least have some involvement with it? If so, how do you determine what suits you best? I know you and Leo the Patriotic Lion are both pianists, but the video I came across of a lion playing video game music on the piano was you (specifically the game "F-Zero" for the SNES), not him; I guess I thought it was him from the suit-and-tie combination. My mistake. I didn't pay attention to the title of the YouTube video. But "F-Zero" was one of my favorite SNES games growing up, and its soundtrack is among my favorite pieces of video game music even to this day. (This also includes future games afterwards, but I'm talking about the original "F-Zero.")
Still, I enjoyed what I heard, and I will continue to pray for you as you prepare for the stress of the Olympic Games in Paris next year; I know you're frustrated about the trolls and their obsession of making innuendo after innuendo out of the name Steeve Ho You Fat.
Sincerely,
Jacques LaLonde, age 33 (leopard)

Leonce's reply:
Dear Jacques:
I appreciate you praying for me; I need all the prayer I can get. I blew it once and had to resign from my position as President of the whole European Union; being the President of France has gone so much smoother for me, thank goodness. I've talked to Steeve many times about it, but the real worry doesn't necessarily come from the immature American fans who do the unforgivable act of making innuendos over his name attending the Olympics, although that would stress me out. All of us have been rallying him to remain in France instead of moving to the U.S. to play for the NBA (National Basketball Association), even though that is where the real money comes from when it comes to basketball. (Even some of the mascots in that organization make big bucks! Can you believe that?) But don't worry; I made a vow to remain calm, and playing the piano helps me do that. But I thank you and everybody for your prayers and support; I'm a very grateful lion.
Your other question, however, was, "Do all parallels play an instrument, or at least some involvement with it?" The answer is yes. Some lions don't play an instrument necessarily, but they do at least sing, and they can actually sing unlike some people who think they can sing, but can't do it without autotune. Examples include Lionus the Chivalric Lion (England) and Luitpold the Germanic Lion (Germany); they just sing. But they sing well enough, you'd think they'd make a living singing opera. I know; Lionus impressed me one day.
Leo is a percussionist, so the common assumption made was that all lions in his "army" are percussionists. That is not true; we play what suits us best. If you consider the piano a percussion instrument, then I am one by definition, but piano is the only instrument I play. It helps that it is the most versatile of any instrument. Levi, your Prime Minister, plays the bugle (and the keyed trumpet as well) because he was once a Royal Canadian Mountee, and he played those instruments in various ensembles during his time as a Mountee. By contrast, you have Lennart the Viking Lion, who plays guitars of all types, but mainly electric guitar because his genre of choice is Viking metal. (Yes; there is such a thing.) The ones who are percussionists, however, were among the first ones discovered, and so my guess is that's where the assumption came from, but we know it's not true.
The fact you saw me playing the music of "F-Zero" on the piano was because I am not just a pianist, but I am a piano teacher as well (although that went on hiatus because I'm the President right now), and I had a few students play video game music just for fun. So I thought, "Why not give it a try?" Though the most famous video game music of all is the theme tune to the Mario franchise (I think you know which one I'm talking about), the music of "F-Zero" was the first soundtrack I voluntarily listened to, and I liked what I heard, so I taught myself to play it. (In particular, I like the song for "Sand Ocean.")
When you wear formal suits and ties, sometimes they do look identical, so I apologize for the confusion. I thought it would be easy to tell us apart, because I'm just athletically built, even though I am in shape. Leo, by contrast, does weightlifting and bodybuilds, although he doesn't necessarily stack up to some of the other G-52s who have super strength. He aims, however, to be a gentle giant, just as the other muscular parallels of him do, most notably his parallels of all martial arts who are muscular and strong; the strongest of them all is Leonidas the Hellenic Lion of Greece (and yes, he actually is stronger than Lennart; we checked).
Note that Leo is a pianist as well, but he divides that evenly with the other percussion instruments, and he purposely chose the field drum (a rope-tensioned snare drum) to be his instrument of choice. He takes great pride in playing it, and let's face it, why wouldn't he? Put the flag behind him as he drums (or gives the military salute the proper way) and you have a series of really powerful images that leave a life-changing impression on you.
Hope that helps, and thank you for letter. Feel free to write back and let me know where I goofed if I missed anything.
Yours truly,
Leonce Baudin, a.k.a. Leonce the Romantic Lion
President of the Republic of France

Leonce's seventh letter.
All parallels of Leo are joint-owned between me and Chuong
Leo himself, G-52s, etc. © me and me alone
F-Zero and Mario franchises © Nintendo; all music belongs to it and its composers. I own nothing of that sort.
F-Zero piano medley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHdu9v6h2bw
Performed by Gabb. This is the sort of thing that Leonce was playing according to the letters.

Chuong: So Leonidas is stronger than Lennart when he's not berserk. Got it.
Zax: Strength of Hercules and also just as smart as he was.
Zachary: Can Leonce play Rush E on piano? I like to see him try.
Chuong: I can't and will not play Rush E. It's notoriously difficult! I'll take marching punishment instead of playing Rush E. It's a meme as well due to it being notoriously difficult.

Leonce: Do you mean this song here? I was fascinated by it the first time I heard it, so I wrote an arrangement of myself.
Leo: When was that?
Leonce: Just before I was elected President.
*He sits down at a piano and plays the song perfectly, although he plays a different arrangement he wrote himself. Super C films it for the G-52 YouTube channel.*
