This ruby rat dragon will be part of a layered project, so it is technically a work-in-progress. This specific part of it, the dragon design, is finished. Later, I will cut it out (but only partially; I want to preserve the watercolor background to some extent) and place it in a larger format so that I can add 3D embellishments.
A few years ago, I made a pair of large artworks for my mom. We couldn't decide which color of dragon she wanted, so I decided to do the whole color wheel - primaries, secondaries, and tertiaries. That meant 12 colors and 12 dragons. I thought it would be fun to use the Chinese Zodiac as a theme for the dragons, and so had rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, serpent, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog, and boar dragons - six in each artwork. But I only showed partial bodies of the dragons since they were all packed into the compositions pretty tightly. I wanted to show the full bodies of the dragons, so I would eventually need to draw out each of the twelve in their own compositions. Rat Dragon is the first!
If you espie the lineart floating around, don't be surprised or alarmed. This dragon is the basis for one of the line designs included in my Dragon Adventure coloring books.
I made this with ink, watercolor, Prismacolor pencil, and gold paint pen.
Not for sale; project is not yet finished!
