A creme-colored bovine paced anxiously,
all the while her hooves clicked rhythmically against the terracotta pathway.
"Come on, Amelia, please get here soon," she whined under her breath.
The pretty cow brushed her golden locks aside to glance at her phone.
She eyed her date's text:
'Meet u @ the bench in frnt @ 2:30 sharp! ⌚️
U lyke blue right? 🎀'
"Oh...oh no..."
Her heart sank as the clock widget read 2:45pm. Not being the most confident bovine, nor the most glamorous, she had had her share of heartbreak. Being turned down for a date was one thing, but being stood up cut far deeper. If the fox wasn't interested in a second meeting, she could have saved her the pain from the get-go!
Conflicted between wanting to curse the world or cry her eyes out, the cow took to the bench.
"M-maybe she's just busy?" She swallowed hard, in an effort to deter the lump in her throat.
Shakily she tapped Amelia's icon and gave her a call.
. . .
. . .
. . .
"What up, it's ya girl Ameelz!!!"
The cow nearly choked.
"Amelia, it's me, P-Patrice... W-we had a da-"
"I don't have my phone with me, if ya can b'lieve it! So uh, yeah leave me a message and I can get back with ya! 'kay, later!"
... BEEP!
The cow frowned and tried to steady her voice.
"H-hey, it's me Patrice. I don't mean to be annoying or anything, but um, we were supposed to meet at the botanical gardens this afternoon."
She took a moment to inhale, suddenly feeling dizzy.
"I-it's okay if you got the days mixed up...or maybe I did? ...Uh anyway, please let me know if you're coming today or...?
Th-thank you. B-bye."
As the call ended, the bovine hung her head.
Between the unwept tears and uncertainty, her many stomachs were in knots.
"I might as well cry.
Not like there's anyone here to see."
She took a little pink gingham handkerchief from her purse and dabbed at her straying tears.
"Patty", squealed a sudden peppy voice.
The bovine spun around in her seat.
About a yard away stood an amber-furred vixen in a vivid sky-blue maxidress.
"Patty, girl, I-."
The fox's enthusiasm died when she looked upon her teary date.
"Hey, hey, hey," she cooed soothingly as she drew close.
"What's wrong?"
Embarrassed, the bovine hid behind her tear-soaked handkerchief.
"I... I'm sorry. ...I left you a message and I... I'm sorry," she hicupped through a sob.
Amelia drew her arms around her date.
"Hey, I should be sorry. I made you cry."
She took a fresh tissue from her purse and dabbed away at Patrice's wet cheeks.
"The ol' bloodsugar was getting low. Had to get somethin' quick!
I left the apartment in a hurry. Ended up leaving my phone on the dresser like a dummy."
Patrice's soft blue eyes twinkled as her date gently tended to her tears.
"Oh... I'm really glad to see you," she blinked away the last of her sadness.
"Thank you for being so kind to me."
The genuine sweetness in the bovine's voice melted her heart.
"Hun, you deserve all that an' more!"
Walking hand in hand, the two ladies passed through an ornate iron gate, venturing forth into a colorful array of flowers.
"I dunno much about flowers, but these are adorable!"
Amelia motioned to a bed of vibrant pink flowers.
"Aww, look! They're the same color as your dress!"
Patrice blushed and gently knelt down to take in the scent of the pretty flora.
She inhaled deepy. A gentle, natural perfume danced along her nose.
"Mmm, smells sort of like roses...and lavender."
"Oh wow, really?"
The fox curiously knelt on the path beside her date and sniffed.
"Ooh, yeah, that's crazy!"
The cow couldn't help but giggle, feeling far more at ease now.
She rose to her hooves and offered her date a hand.
"Why thank ya, cutie," the vixen giggled.
A deep blush overtook Patrice's face.
"Y-you're welcome."
Her heart skipped a happy beat.
The two strolled toward a sunlit patch of blue flowers.
"I read that every flower planted here was brought over from South America," Amelia said with a nudge.
"Or at least that's what their site claims."
"They're so...tall," Patrice replied, somewhat bewildered.
The flowers in the patch stood nearly at chin's length. She cupped one of the flowers in her hand delicately, bringing it to her snout.
"These are almost the same shade a-as y-your..."
A sudden, slow burning tickle crept into her nostrils.
"Hm?" Amelia, having already buried her face in the flowers, hadn't seen the red tinge forming along her date's nares.
The bovine's nostrils began to flare.
"Duh...druhh....esss...hhh....hhhhaaa..."
Not wanting to sneeze in front of her date, she kept her face hidden in the flower.
"Hhhhaaa....
....hhhhh....
..HAAAA...."
Her needy inhalations only served to draw more of the itchy pollen deep within her snout.
"....HAAAAA....!"
Amelia whipped around to see the cow's bust rise and fall with her desperate hitching.
"Patty, wait!" She leapt towards her and placed a finger under those pink flaring nostrils.
"....HAAAAAHHHHH.......
.....HAAAHHHH....!"
Her eyes rolled back.
"Wait, if you sneeze here, you'll-!"
Amelia watched helplessly as the cow's nares grew larger and larger until...
"HHHHHHAAAHHHHH...
......
HHHAAAAHHHHCHOOOOO!!!!"
A forceful wind erupted from the cow, rippling through the thick patch of flowers, and with it, cast a cloud of golden pollen into the air.
"Oh no," the fox cried.
She watched as the golden cloud shrouded her date.
"Patty, hold your brea-"
"....hhhhhh...
Having her snoot so full of allergens, there was no way for her to resist her building urge.
".....ahhhhh...
...hhhhhaaahhhhhh....."
Her soft pink snout twitched and scrunched as her sinuses were peppered with pollen.
Amelia sprang to the bovine.
"Hun, we gotta go."
She grasped her by the hand, but the hitching bovine wouldn't move.
Her teased, irritated nostrils fanned out, desperate for relief.
".....Hhhhhhh.....
.......HAAAAAAHHHH......
......AHHHHHHHHHH....!!!"
Her body was so focused on fighting the impending sneeze, poor Patrice couldn't focus on anything else.
The fox got behind her and tried to steer her away, but the bovine wouldn't budge.
"....HAAAAAAHHHH...!!!!!
The cow reared her head back before a tremendous sneeze escaped her.
.......CHOOOOOOO!!!"
"Oh Patty....
...Wait, I have an idea!"
Thinking quickly, the fox tore the skirt from her dress and tied the scrap around Patrice's muzzle.
"Huh?"
Patrice snuffled, and blinked away sneezy tears.
"What's this for?"
The fox shook her head and grabbed Patrice's hand.
"C'mon, let's go before your allergies start again!"
The two made a mad dash to the front gate, all the while, Patrice's snout danced with its unfinished task.
"Ah..Ahmelia... I don't think this'll hahhh...help for much longer," breathed the sniffly cow.
"It's okay," said the fox, as they turned a corner
"We're at the front!"
The two sat themselves on a bench.
"Hey Patty?"
Amelia removed the little scrap of material from around her date's snout.
"Didja like the gardens...?"
The cow blinked.
"Did I...?"
A look of alarm crossed her face before her eyes shut tight.
"Oh no...I...
...hhaaahhh...have to...
....aaahhh......!"
She threw back her head, her red nostrils flaring like mad.
"....hhhhhaaahhhh!!!!..."
Patrice's powerful lungs pulled an enormous amount of air into her needy nostrils.
"....eeehhhh....!!!
....haaahhhhh...!!!"
The pull of the cow's powerful hitches began to draw in Amelia's tail.
"Patty...!"
Her bushy tail touched down into a warm, cavernous nostril. As the cow's snout quivered and twitched, Amelia's tail tickled a red, glistening wall. It teased and dragged against the pull until it became stuck.
"....HAHHH....!!!!"
The bovine's bust heaved.
"....AHHHHHHH....!!!"
Her blocked nostril flared wildly around the fox's tail
"HAAHHHHHHH.....?!"
She reared back, unable to stop what was to come.
".....HAAAHHHHHCHOOOO!
HHHHEHHH....
....HAHHHCHOOOOO!!!"
Patrice broke into a powerful, back-bending fit. She sneezed and sneezed.
Her well-teased snout, sprayed a flurry of mist over her now flustered date.
When her tender nose was satisfied, the bovine took out her handkerchief and blew.
"Uh, Amelia?"
She looked to the ground, afraid to meet her date's gaze.
"I am SO sorry... I'm not allergic to regular flowers. I didn't think this would happen."
The fox grinned and playfully poked her snout.
"Hun, don't be. It was fun!"
Patrice cocked her head.
"Huh?"
"I liked you from the moment we met.
But after today, I feel like I hit the jackpot!"
"Again: 'huh'?"
The vixen delivered a sultry stare that gave the bovine goosebumps.
"I like sweet, strong women. And cutie, those were strong sneezes from a very sweet woman."
Patrice smiled sheepishly. "I like you too..."
Careful of her horns, the cow nuzzled her head against Amelia's.
"Does this mean....?"
"Sure does, girlfriend," she replied, planting a soft kiss on Patrice's blushing cheek.
