Back at the waterfall where Dume's corpse still lies, Blitz, Sera, and Chase come to a running stop, panting heavily. They have been running non-stop ever since they escaped Azazel, having been too afraid to slow down with the fear that the enemy may catch them. Despite their exhaustion, Chase begins to sob, finally being allowed the time to truly mourn the death of his brother. Blitz tears up as well, but he does not cry. Instead, he stares blankly at his father's dead body a little ways away from them, thinking deeply about everything that has happened. His entire world has flipped upside down in such a short span of time that he is completely lost, both literally and metaphorically. A long silence spreads among the three wolves, the only sound being Chase's crying, which slowly fades away into steady breaths after several minutes. "How could I let this happen?" Blitz says quietly. "What do you mean?" Chase asks, no longer crying but his voice still broken.
"I killed Dume with the intention of avenging my mother and saving everyone. Perhaps I did avenge my mother, but I also allowed a much greater threat to take control of everything. And to think that the very threat I speak of shares half of the same blood I do ... well, it scares me, to say the least. I never once even considered that he might exist, and yet he knew everything about me, and he hated both me and Dume for reasons I don't understand. Reasons he tried to tell me, but ... I was too afraid to ask. But whatever he was gonna tell me, I can't help but feel that all of this is at least partly because of me." "This isn't your fault, Blitz! It's like you said, you never knew he existed; there's no way you possibly could have," Chase says, doing his best to comfort and reassure Blitz. "Yeah, he's right. Things may be bad, but this isn't the first time you've been against impossible odds, right?" Sera rhetorically asks. Blitz considers Chase and Sera's words for several moments, before slightly and silently nodding his head. "And you can't save your friends if you spend too much time doubting yourself," Sera adds. Blitz takes a deep breath, then with a small smile, he quietly says, "Yeah, you're right."
An awkward silence passes among the three of them until Chase finally addresses the elephant in the room, asking Sera, "So now that that's out of the way, who are you, and why are you helping us?" "I'm Sera, and my reasoning is a story for another time, because there's no telling what Azazel will do next. It's no bluff when he says he's much more dangerous than Dume. Dume was obsessed with you, Blitz, so much that he chose to blindly go after you instead of actually pursue his goals, which ultimately got him killed. Azazel has the same goals as Dume, and he is also obsessed with you, but his obsession is more of a disadvantage for you rather than himself," Sera explains. "He’s obsessed with making me suffer, right?" Blitz asks. "That's right. He's not going to spare your friends waiting for your decision, he's going to kill them as soon as he gets the chance, then flaunt all of their corpses later on," Sera responds. "Well what are we doing just standing here, then? If everyone is separated and at risk of being killed while we have no idea where they are, then we have to move quickly!" Chase shouts.
"Just hold on! You can't rush in a situation like this, you've gotta take a second to figure out what to do," Sera exclaims. "What do you suggest we do, then?" Blitz asks impatiently. "Dume and Azazel have been preparing for this day for months, but I have too. With two wolves like Dume and Azazel as the leaders, you really think I'm the only one who wanted to betray them?" Sera responds. "Wait, there's more? How many of you are there?" Blitz asks in a shout. "Not much compared to the rest of the pack, but when combined with the strength of your pack, we'd stand a chance," Sera answers. "So what are they doing right now, and how are they supposed to help us, specifically?" Chase asks. "Well first of all, the most skilled amongst them are spying on Azazel in case something big or important happens, or if they learn the whereabouts of one of your friends. Meanwhile, the rest of them are acting as guards for two of your friends. I think their names are River and Alaska. The gray one and the white one?" Sera says.
"Yes, that's them!" Chase confirms. "Right! Anyway, they're completely safe, because they've all moved to a safe location, ready for whenever they're needed." "This is great! So what about us, what're we gonna do right now?" Blitz asks. "We're gonna get Dusk, first. Since Dusk is such a major threat due to his experience and skill, he was assigned four guards. But luckily enough, that extra guard was me, so I already know where he is," Sera responds. "Well then let's get going, we've already wasted enough time," Chase urges. "Yes, follow me," Sera agrees as she leads Chase and Blitz in a run toward Dusk’s location.
Several minutes later, Sera notices they're coming close to Dusk's location. "Slow down, we're almost there," she says quietly as she slows down, Blitz and Chase following suit. When they're just beginning to see the den, they all crouch down, and begin to crawl as if they were stalking prey. As they're crawling, Sera whispers, "I'll get the one in the middle. You two sneak around and attack from the sides. Watch me carefully, then attack once I curl my tail." "Okay," "Got it," Chase and Blitz whisper in unison. As they approach the den, they get low to the ground in order to stay hidden behind some plants and bushes. As expected, the three guards are still there, thinking they're doing their job well as they all stand there clueless. Just like they planned, Chase and Blitz begin sneaking to the sides, Blitz to the left and Chase to the right. Sera looks at both of them, making sure they're both ready, then she curls her tail, barely touching her back with its tip. Right on cue, the three of them all leap out of the bushes and tackle their target to the ground, spilling some blood as they lightly bite their necks. Due to the sudden shock, the three guards are all instantly knocked out. Dusk jumps in a startle, but when he realizes who it is, his face lights up.
"Blitz, Chase! Boy is it a relief to see you! But ... what is she doing here?" he exclaims then asks, referring to Sera. "It's a long story, we'll tell you on the way. Let's go!" Blitz says as he runs out, the others following suit. However, they only take a few strides before coming to a sudden stop, shocked by what they're seeing. In front of them, waiting with a proud smile on his face, is Azazel. He has several wolves behind him, including the six wolves from the earlier fight. "What, surprised to see me? Sera was assigned as a guard here, so it was fairly obvious where you would go first. Really, I am quite unimpressed," he says. "Who are you, and where's Dume?" Dusk asks. "What, they haven't told you about me, yet? Why don't you tell him, Blitz," Azazel teases. Blitz instinctively tucks his tail between his legs whilst looking down, a look of guilt on his face. Chase and Sera understand this reaction, but Dusk is quite confused and concerned by it. "He's ... he says ... he's Dume's firstborn," Blitz says quietly and regretfully. Dusk looks back up at Azazel with shock, unable to grasp on such a subject. "That's not possible! Sapphire only ever gave birth to one child, there's no way you're her child," Dusk yells. Azazel chuckles, then says, "That is correct, because Sapphire is not my mother. Dume had another mate, Ruby, whom he met before Sapphire even joined your silly little pack," Azazel explains.
Dusk gets a pit in his stomach, uncomfortable at such a thought. If this wolf truly is his nephew, and this is how he feels about it, he can't even imagine how Blitz feels. He looks back at Blitz, and can see the confusion of emotions on his face. "You see it on his face, don't you? His pain and regret, and his fear. Ha-ha, he feels such things because he made a major mistake: killing Dume!" "DUME'S DEAD?" Dusk shouts, more shock being added to the pile of emotions he already feels. "Correct again, Uncle. Little Blitz made a big mistake, because killing Dume puts me in charge, which puts all of your packmates in much further danger than they were before. In fact, one of them has already fallen by my jaws," Azazel teases. Chase growls softly, angered at the mere mention of his brother's death. This piques Azazel's interest, so he then says, "Poor little Jase, just too impulsive to avoid his own death." Chase immediately snarls furiously, then yells, "YOU DON'T DESERVE TO SAY HIS NAME!" while charging straight toward Azazel. "Chase, no!" Dusk and Blitz shout in unison as they and Sera run after him, but Chase does not listen. "Humph. Kill him," Azazel orders. Immediately, the wolves behind Azazel all attack, the closest two intercepting Chase and taking him to the ground.
Dusk and Blitz immediately rush in, each tackling one of the wolves off of Chase. Chase quickly stands up and is about to lunge at Azazel, but Sera grabs his scruff and holds him back. "Get a hold of yourself! I know it hurts, but remember the mistake your brother made! Don't attack impulsively!" Before Chase can say anything in response, Sera jumps into the fight, getting on her hind legs and clawing the face of the wolf in front of her, who is also standing on their hind legs. Chase recollects himself and joins the fight, this time going after one of the other wolves. Despite the difference in skill, Blitz and the others are quickly overwhelmed due to how many they have to fight at once, and they all know this. After taking down another wolf, Blitz looks around, contemplating what they can do to get themselves out of this mess. He continues to think while he faces another wolf, but nothing comes to him. They can't fight their way out, and they won't be able to find an opening for them to all run away. They can't surrender either, because Azazel will just kill everyone else. As the continuous fighting forces the four of them toward the center with their backs toward each other, Blitz begins to think there's no way for them to get out of this. But then finally, an idea hits.
"Dusk, there's only one way for us all to survive, but you have to trust my judgment!" Blitz says. "What're you gonna do?" Dusk asks, a bit concerned with what Blitz could be planning. "Just wait for the opening, then run," Blitz says, then he continues fighting. He slowly fights his way toward Azazel, doing his best to not make it look purposeful. Once he is close enough to Azazel, Blitz grabs his opponent by the neck, then suddenly tosses him right at Azazel. Azazel barely dodges as he jumps back, having been caught off guard. Just like he planned, Blitz uses this moment of confusion to leap at Azazel and sink his teeth into his neck, causing him to yell out in pain while some blood immediately spills. Hearing the leader yell in pain, the remaining enemy wolves all suddenly look over to Azazel, momentarily forgetting about the fight. Dusk, Chase, and Sera use this brief moment to escape, and Blitz attempts to do the same. However, he is suddenly stopped by Azazel's teeth sinking into his back left leg, drawing lots of blood. Blitz yells in pain as he falls to the ground, alerting Dusk, Chase, and Sera to look back in surprise. "GO! TRUST MY JUDGMENT!" Blitz yells, looking right at Dusk. Dusk hesitates a second, then says "Come on!" while running away, Sera following suit. "But what about Blitz?" Chase asks. "He knows what he's doing, COME ON!" Dusk yells, worried since Azazel's wolves are beginning to chase after them. Not having much of a choice, Chase sprints away with Dusk and Sera, leaving Blitz and the enemy behind.
Seeing how far ahead they are, the enemy wolves quickly give up, rushing back over to Azazel and Blitz. Blitz is lying on the ground with blood flowing from his leg, and Azazel is standing above him, blood dripping from his neck. "Very smart, Blitz! You took advantage of my one flaw: I want you to suffer, not die. If you really are as smart as you seem, then I shouldn't have to tell you not to run away," Azazel says. Blitz growls softly, irritated that Azazel is right. "So now what, huh? Your major advantage isn't so major anymore, is it?" Blitz mocks. "An advantage is still an advantage, is it not? I still know the location of some of your friends, and my wolves know the rest! Your friends can't save them all, and they can't save you!" Azazel intimidates back, hiding his irritation at Blitz's mockery.
Later, back in the center of the Pack of Fate, Dusk, Chase, and Sera come to a panting stop. They take a few seconds to catch their breath, then Chase shouts, "Why're we running away? They have Blitz!" "Blitz knows what he's doing," Dusk says confidently. "You said that earlier, but what does that mean?" Chase asks. "Think about it. If Azazel wants to make Blitz suffer by killing all of you, he can't do that if Blitz is dead. Blitz knew that, and he also knew Azazel getting hurt would distract all of his wolves, so he attacked Azazel knowing he probably wouldn't get away," Sera explains. "'Cause he knew he wouldn't get killed. Okay, that makes sense. But we still can't leave him! They won't kill him, but they could do anything else to him!" Chase exclaims. "I agree! Sera, if you don't mind, I think we should tweak your plan a little," Dusk suggests. "It can't be anything big, so lemme hear it, first," Sera says. "You go get Alaska, River, and your allies that are with them, and have them come here. In the meantime, Chase and I will go after Blitz," Dusk says.
"Why go after Blitz if he's the only one Azazel won't kill?" Sera asks. "Azazel doesn't have to put a pause to his plan, because he has Blitz with him. He can just take Blitz to our remaining packmates, then kill them in front of him there. So if we go after Azazel and Blitz, if we're quick enough, we'll also find our packmates before they're killed," Dusk responds. "That's brilliant, I never thought of that! In fact, that gives you a better chance of finding your friends than if you were just looking for their scents. Okay, it's a plan," Sera exclaims. "In order for this to work, we first have to find their scents. Any idea where Azazel could be heading right now, or at least a general area?" Dusk asks. "Remember, a few of my allies are spying on Azazel. They're good at leaving subtle tracks and scent trails that can only be found if you're looking for them. Go back to where we just fought, and start from there," Sera answers. "Okay, perfect. We'll get to it!" Dusk says before he and Chase run in the direction they just came from.
Meanwhile, back where Azazel is, he is already en route to the location of his next victim. Behind him is Blitz, who is walking on three legs due to the severe injury Azazel gave him on his back leg. Even with that injury, he would try to sneak away if he weren't completely surrounded by four of Azazel's wolves, none of whom received a single injury from the previous battle. "Where are you taking me?" Blitz demands. Azazel laughs, stays silent for a moment, then says, "You should already know. My next victim awaits!" Just a few seconds later, a den embedded into the side of a hill comes into view. There are three guard wolves outside, and another wolf is lying down inside, unaware of the danger already within sight.

A wolf has always struggled with the world, but ever since something terrible happened in his youth, his life has never been what it once was. In this small story, the wolf will continue to become challenged not just by the world around him, but by his very own mind. Will he completely break, will he fabulously persevere, or something in between?
I decided to finally work on this story again, because I've been getting a bit tired of it, if I'm being honest. That is, until I wrote this Part. I can't quite explain why, but I feel like this Part is one of the best things I've ever written (and I've been writing seven years)! On top of that, I wrote the entire thing in ONE DAY! I didn't even know how to progress with this story yesterday, but once I laid out a timeline, it's almost as if the words put themselves together. Anyway, since I'm in such a flow, I expect Part Five will be out soon. But as always, there's no telling when it comes to me.

I didn't even know how to progress with this story yesterday, but once I laid out a timeline, it's almost as if the words put themselves together. Anyway, since I'm in such a flow, I expect Part Five will be out soon. But as always, there's no telling when it comes to me.
