I wanted to post the Opossum Spirit Guide here as a cute reminder that I post daily spirit guide and nature artwork across my other social medias every day. :D These daily posts are informative and spiritual postings meant to aid in mental and spiritual health as well as to spread knowledge about a variety of animals and plant life. I don't often post them here to avoid cluttering my FA with repeated artwork. However, Please feel free to check out my other social medias to keep up with these daily posts!

Spirit Guide of the day is Opossum! 😁
If you are in a rough situation, you may need to pay closer attention to your instincts to know how to get out of it. There may reason for you to act contrary to your emotions, putting on behavior necessary to deal with a situation. A good idea would be to research and plan out your strategy with back-up plans to help you in case your first ideas do not work. The situation may require that you have to stretch yourself a little thinner than comfortable to reach your goal. It may also help to study Tai Chi or Aikido in order to use these in your strategies to conquer your situation. The Opossum guide is known for it's connection with the use of appearances. This guide can help us learn how to use our emotions and when to put them aside. Opossum can teach us how to appear fearless despite fears or when to use aggression or submission. This guide is one for acting, using your ability to hide or provide the appropriate emotions for any situation. This pouched animal shows us we can pull from our own skills to succeed. People who connect with Opossum have the ability to quickly access a situation and realize how to deal with it. These individuals are adept at hiding their own emotions while able to see beneath the masks that other's wear as well without judgement on them. These types are natural actors with physical and mental flexibility as well as a strong nurturing and protective concern over those they consider close to them.
Opossums, Didelphidae, are omnivorous mammals that can live between 2 and 4 years depending on species. There are over 60 species of opossum and, while they originated in South America, they can be found in Central and North America. Certain species, such as the Common opossum and the Virginia opossum are found on in North America. These creatures are the only marsupials, or pouched animals, found in North America. These animals can grow to approximately 3 feet from nose to tail and weigh around 13 pounds. Opossums prefer tree-filled, wet environments such as marshes, streams, and swamps, but aren't too fussy about where they live as long as there are trees and food sources. Much of these nocturnal creature's life is spend up in the trees. They use their prehensile tails to aid in staying aloft on the branches. Opossum also have thumbs on their front and back paws that aid in climbing and hunting. They will often rest in tree holes left by other animals. During the winter, these animals will live in burrows padded with shredded paper or dry leaves to aid their fat stores in keeping them warm. They do not hibernate, but will reduce their activities. During the warm seasons, Opossums will actually lick themselves in order to cool themselves down by covering their fur in spit. The diet of an Opossum consists of a wide range of foods. They are not picky on what they eat from vegetation such as grass, fruits, and nuts as well as meats such as chickens, snakes, worms, insects, and mice. In urban areas, they will survive on what they can kind including garbage and roadkill. The iconic skill of an Opossum is their game of playing dead. This defense mechanism includes flopping limply to the ground with their tongue hanging out and their eyes staring dead-eyed ahead of them. This game actually helps to convince predators that they are already dead and not worth messing with. At times, this mechanism can actually last as long as six hours. They are also immune to many toxins such as those from bee stings and snake bites. Opossums are not normally aggressive, but will sometimes hiss to intimidate others away. Opossum will breed twice a year. The male, called a Jack, will depart after breeding and leave the female to raise the young on her own. These babies, called joeys, are born as small as jelly beans. Their live begins with the trek across their mother's stomach into her pouch to find the milk within. These joeys will develop safe within their mother's pouch until they are grown enough to come out. Even after this, they will still hang onto their mother's back wherever she goes. The Opossum joeys will stay with their mother for approximately 100 days before heading out on their own. They will fully mature between six to eight months old. One of the many debates is about the name of these creatures. An Opossum are the American species Didelphimorpha although they are still commonly called Possums. It is the Australian relatives, Phalangeridae, that are actually called Possums.
