Soot seems to be up for a challenge from Tamer! Though, it doesn't stop him from being sassy about it...
Hey-ho everyone! I'd like to thank you all for supporting my return after I nearly gave up on art! I really thought that I couldn't do art at all but you guys gave me the motivation and confidence to keep going. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
Serious things aside, you peeps seemed to enjoy Soot so I wanted to show a bit more of what Soots actually is and what they can do! As you can see, they look like a giant cloud of soot that infects (inanimate and non-sentient) things. Really, it's just a mix of ghost possession and goo symbiote but with a different flavour. For the time being, I suppose I'll coin this type of thing, 'virus infection' or 'virus takeover'.
Massive thanks to d682 for helping me iterate through the various designs of Soot! This one was actually an older and simpler version of their design and I can't wait to be able to show the full detailed reference for them. And yes, they enjoy making puns. The horror.
This one is my first ever comic (?) styled page so I have no clue how to properly panel these things. I tried out the more simple shading style I started with ages ago rather than the more painterly approach I ended up with the first time and I think it's a nice compromise between quality and time. Whether or not it'll work in color still remains to be seen...
I'd really appreciate some feedback on what works and what doesn't so that I can do more comics in the future! Catch you all on the flip side for part 2!

Well you're definitely cementing my liking for soot even more with something like this! They look amazing in that form and i love how animated that lucario mask gets once they're in control of it! Now i just wonder if they would seek a Lucario out to complete the look
Funny that you say that since I'm working on a similar idea, but for our favorite yellow Digimon!
It's really nice to see you posting again, dude. I hope to keep seeing more of Soot and their living suits from you.
I think the paneling you've done for the comic looks good, really like the bits of Soot leaking through their panels. And the shading on them looks good too, I imagine it would work in color with a bit of work.
Also, the puns Soot them :p

I'm glad to be back as well. Assuming nothing much changes (knock on wood), I'm planning on sticking around for a good while and being more consistent this time around!
Thank you for the words of confidence! I really appreciate it. I still need way more testing and practice with paneling and shading though...
As for the puns, I suppose if you were a virus that's been quarantined for ages, no one would blame you if you catch a punny sense of humor!

Thank you so much! d682 did an absolutely fantastic job with helping me come up with their design! Even though all I showed them were a rough concept and a few sketches, they really ran with it.
I can't wait to show off the full detailed version of Soot when they release it!

Really nice flavor of possession! I wouldn't mind putting that mask on at all ^^
Your art is wonderful and don't ever think it isn't.

Thank you for your support and words of encouragement! They really help me with my doubts and make me feel that the few hundred hours I spent before coming back were well worth it.
Soot definitely welcomes all to try wearing them! Though, letting go is another thing entirely...

Well heck, even compared to a year ago it certainly seems like there's been a lot of improvement. If it helps, I feel like I can visualize what happens in between the panels really well and that immerses me a lot more.
I'm sure they'd know how to treat others right. And based on how I see it infecting the mask, I'm sure letting go would be quite the fun process ;D
