Picked up a couple of ship-looking toys that might fit the bill for Neal's little 'Drop One'

Hard to say, but having seen both types, I'd go with this model as 'Drop One', only because it'd be more of a challenge that the girls used when picking off the fighters. :)
That and the extended section would fit about right for several people / furs to fit into for dropping into areas that have transporter blockers up and running!

Only problem is biting off a chunk of its tail shouldn't take out the troop segment's pressure ... (may need a rewrite of that bit ... )
i always envisioned drop one to be like an elongated runabout from DS9 so this fits close.
What I envision is more of a larger version of the runabout from Stargate Atlantis. Perhaps scaled to be twice as big. That gives you a rear-loading hatch, with engines and weapons in the winglets
From my book two:
The other side of the airlock opened into a hangar with several small landing craft scattered about. Drop One was an ugly squat-looking vessel, heavily armored to be able to shrug off all but the heaviest of weapons while delivering up to forty troops in relative safety.

Very nice! Has a lot of 'Firefly' meets 'Space Engineers' esthetic.
Still mostly energy based weaponry? Or are they still suddenly changing things when you find an exploit in the 'trek' like tech.
Just another 'toy' they had on sale a while back - the question is if it's too much/little for the story?
Na.... In my eyes they both don´t do it as a real Drop ship.
I think neals drop ship as a boxy struckture. No wings for airodynamic flight needet. A clean armored surface. Retracabel turrets with beam weapons. No intakes for air breathing engines. Big airlocks for fast exit. Boxy to be stacked in carrier ships.

Only two suited fit in the airlock, but yeah, neither is a good fit. (though the other fits a tiny bit better as short/squat/lots of power to better zig and zag - and somehow survived two shots that should have killed it.)
Hoo boy! You got my model building muse all excited. I don't know if I should tell her that these are computer generated, 3-D images.
Even worse, if you have the gear there are options to 3D print them too!
