Heat. Everything about this today involved heat; whether it was the sun hanging high in the sky like an unforgiving, searing eye, or the tension in the marketplace that had everyone on edge, the day could only be described as a Day of Heat. The temperature carried over into people's heads, with everyone just wanting to go about their day and get what they need and get home to get out of the heat. But it was a powder keg, and and it was just one wrong word away from blowing up.
That wrong word came.
A brown furred cat lady with vibrant purple eyes was looking over a fruit stand and picking some out for dinner that night, but the flies around her head were getting on her nerves, the incessant buzzing serving only to lessen her patience, , and she was shocked when she felt a body slam into her and push her to the ground with a yelp of surprise. She splayed her arms out to catch the ground and cushion the fall out of instinct, but in the process her basket went upside down and spilled all the vegetables she had purchased up until that point. As her produce was cast into the ground, her rage just boiled over and in one motion, she turned back up to the man who pushed her over-a brown furred canine who just continued walking along-and grabbed his shoulder after leaping up onto her feet. The screaming started immediately as he turned with his own shout of surprise and anger. The cat lady got the first word in however,
"How about you watch where you're going, nek!? You just cost me tonight's dinner!" He responded as soon he could with,
"Let go of me you filthy-" At this point he was interrupted by further shouting from nearby fennec fox bystander, who grabbed their shoulders and tried to push them away from each other.
"How about you both cool off!?" The canine who had pushed the cat lady over just grabbed the fox's wrists and wrenched it from his shoulder as his muzzle twisted in a snarl of anger, and he growled out,
"Stay out of this!" Now the entire marketplace jumped in as the trio's anger spilled out into the crowd like a line of dominos: first the shopkeep was screaming at them to get away from his stand, then someoen else in the crowd who's temper was already short jumped in as well, and it just spiraled until the marketplace was a chaos of shouting and a few people pushing. The nearby Medjay immediately jumped into action and tried to force their way into the crowd using their shields, but they were pushed back as well. As the Medjay were only recently reimplimented, the people didn't respect their authority yet. The Medjay looked nervous as their hands reached for the khopeshes at their belt. It was going to go bad.
Until an ethereal choir of female voices suddenly came through the air.
It was small at first, only barely being heard under the shouts and yells. Soon the yells began to die down as the music had a calming effect on the people. As their voices died down, the singing grew in volume. It wasn't much longer until the shouts and screams stopped and the marketplace stood still and silent, with everyone now having their heads turned towards the source:
It was a cream and orange furred fennec fox lady wearing a radiant pink dress, translucent pink cape, golden shoulder necklace and matching choker, large hoop earrings, and a golden head ornament with a red gemstone in the center. The red stone was glowing and the fox was holding an orb of energy with the Eye of Ra, ankhs, and a giant lotus flower in it. This orb of energy had purple wisps coming from it and going through the crowd. Each person the wisps touched suddenly felt their anger dissipate, and their inner destructive fire replaced by a feeling of a calm stream washing them from head to toe. Feeling this energy wash over them, and seeing the red gem head ornament, they instantly recognize who this is. The one closest to the fennec speaks out first, loud enough for the suddenly silent square to hear,
"Lady Hathor!" At this many of the people in the crowd lowered themselves onto their knees and bowed and prostrated before the fennec fox. She smiled and placed her arms to her side, and as she did so the orb she was holding disappeared. Only giving a soft smile, she spoke only a few words,
"I have calmed you this day to teach you a lesson: treat another with kindness. You are all children of Egypt. You all have a story, a voice, a family, a past." She looked around at all of the people, her eyes and voice conveying absolute love and calm. She put one of her hands on the well built shoulder of the brown dog, who looked up as he stood from his knees. She could feel him trembling under her gentle touch, and she kept her slender hand on his shoulder as he stood to be slightly taller than her. Despite this, she had an aura that gave a gentle, commanding presence; one that overpowered even the tallest, strongest Egyptian male present. The man could only give a smile as she gently rubbed her thumb on his clavicle, then released his shoulder and turned to the rest. "All of you are brother and sister. Mother and father. Son and daughter." She went to the woman and placed her hand on her shoulder and beckoned for her to stand up. She did so, having the same trembling disposition as the male. Her anger was gone though as she stared into Hathor's shimmering pink eyes. "We all have trials in life, many that go unnoticed. Be patient with others. This I tell you." Sensing she was done, the rest of the crowd stood but kept their heads bowed low. They picked up their baskets and just stood and stared as the fennec fox turned and walked out of the marketplace; her tail, cape, and hair flowed in the wind as she moved with elegance back towards the palace complex. The people in the square went back about their business, and this time, they didn't mind the soaring heat.
First pic in a long while! Little vignette of the version of Egypt I'm cooking up. Hope you enjoy guys!
