Go anywhere & everywhere and come back alive and safe
Judy with her new ride, a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser First Edition. Judy lives in the suburbs yet she doesn't mind getting sand and mud between her toes. She also loves to go camping, hiking, and doing other outdoor activities. Which is why she chose the Land Cruiser. For an SUV designed to conquer the wild, the Land Cruiser is somehow also comfortable for daily use in the city. It's also a macho SUV and not some soccer mom's vehicle. Judy likes the spacious interior as well, and her Land Cruiser has seen some stuff happening in and on it.

Judy is a rich, elegant vixen. Nonetheless, she loves to go rough and wild as she still has the adventurous spirit inside her. That's why she bought the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser First Edition. It has things her Chevrolet Tahoe EV and her Chevrolet Bolt don't have: genuine off-road capability, cargo space, and towing capacity. Judy's no stranger to the Toyota Land Cruiser. Her dad owned a 1984 FJ60, and she learned how to drive using that Land Cruiser. Judy's 2024 Land Cruiser is very different from her old man's Land Cruiser while still having the legendary off-road soul. Her Land Cruiser is a technological marvel that isn't afraid to get dirty and go after the road ends. Judy did consider the 2018 Land Cruiser but it was too big for her, and a nearly $100K Toyota made her think twice. It's worth noting that the 2024 Land Cruiser (250) is different from the previous generation Land Cruiser 200. While the LC200 is a full-size three-row SUV, the 2024 LC250, sold elsewhere as the Land Cruiser Prado, is a mid-size two-row SUV. Judy ordered her Land Cruiser in December 2023 for $65,000 and received it in March 2024.
Unlike most SUVs, Judy's 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is a real SUV, and not a lifted minivan suffering an identity crisis. It shares the same TNGA-F body-on-frame platform as the 2024 Tacoma and is seriously capable off-road. Full-time 4WD system with a locking center differential, CRAWL system that automatically controls the throttle and brakes for slow-speed off-road driving, a multi-terrain select system with five different modes for different types of terrain, electronic KDSS for extra wheel articulation and improved traction across all kinds of surface and front sway bar disconnect that allows the front suspension to articulate more for better off-road performance are standard. It has an approach angle of 31 degrees, a departure angle of 21 degrees, and a breakover angle of 25 degrees, ground clearance of 8.7 inches, rock rails, and full coverage high-strength steel skid plates. All of these make off-roading as easy as driving to the mall. The Land Cruiser's turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine combines with a 48 horsepower electric motor to produce 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in around 7 seconds and tows up to 6,000 lb.
The great outdoors isn't the only place where Judy's Land Cruiser is good at. Courtesy of adjustable suspension and drive modes, her Land Cruiser turns into a refined city cruiser and is suitable for daily driving. It's also quite efficient for its size, capability, and power, getting 31 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The electric motor makes power delivery instantaneous, which means overtaking is a breeze. Despite weighing nearly 5,300 lb and its high ground clearance, the Land Cruiser feels planted on the road even during high-speed driving and cornering. Granted, the OEM Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires are a bit noisy on pavement. Toyota is generous on safety too, it came standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and other active safety features. Judy's Land Cruiser is a home away from home, its interior is spacious and comfortable. 12.3-inch infotainment 4K UHD screen, wireless iFruit CarPlay and Drone Auto, 8-way power-adjustable leather-trimmed front seats, and 14-speaker 720-watt JBL premium sound system are standard.
Judy bought the limited production First Edition; only 5,000 are made for the 2024 model year, with sales in America limited to 1,000. Yes, Judy lives in a suburb in New Jersey and commutes to the airport via the Turnpike and highways. However, every now and then she goes to a secluded lake in a forest in Upstate New York, where she spent her honeymoon with her first husband; going there brings back memories. Judy also appreciates her Land Cruiser's cargo space and towing capacity, really helpful because Judy loves to go jet skiing on the Jersey Shore; cheaper than renting a U-Haul pickup truck. Her friends sometimes ask for her help in towing stuff too. Judy has a dream of renting an Airstream trailer and going on a road trip across America to the West Coast. Buying the Land Cruiser is the first step to that dream. Judy has owned her Land Cruiser for over a year now with more than 15,000 miles on the odometer. She uses her Toyota Land Cruiser as a daily driver alongside her 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe EV. She always use the Land Cruiser for road trips, since her electric Chevies can't go far.

Judy wrote a review for a Land Cruiser forum. She rated the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 8.5 out of 10.
Pros
A true Land Cruiser that handles rough terrain like its nothing, loaded with off-road gizmos and creature comforts, around 3 miles of pure electric range on EV Mode, the hybrid powertrain delivers impressive fuel economy and commendable power, cavernous interior and cargo space, drives like a much smaller crossover SUV while in the asphalt jungle, above-average towing capacity, unmistakable rugged retro looks, time-proven reputation for Toyota durability and reliability.
Cons
Some black plastic on the dashboard ruins the tough vibes, acceleration isn't its forte, noisy all-terrain tires, battery pack makes it almost as heavy as the bigger LC200, V8 engine is no longer available, two door SWB version and detachable doors and roof would be even more fun, really should have the Lexus GX's twin-turbo V6, First Edition pricing is dangerously close to the Lexus GX, not eligible for the $3,750 HEV federal incentive as it's imported from Japan.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
For the 2024 model year, Toyota offers three trims of the Land Cruiser, the base $56,000 Land Cruiser 1958, the mid-range unnamed $60,000 Land Cruiser trim, and the range-topping limited production $65,000 Land Cruiser First Edition. Most buyers will find the Land Cruiser 1958 to be more than enough, it has all the off-road goodies like CRAWL, KDSS, and Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires; though it's somewhat lacking in the infotainment part as it has an 8-inch display without wireless iFruit CarPlay and Drone Auto. The mid-range Land Cruiser trim adds more tech features, including two wireless charging pads, a console cool box, a 2400-watt inverter, a 10-inch display and a 10-speaker 575-watt JBL sound system. Land Cruiser First Edition is only produced for the 2024 model year, it has the Land Cruiser 1958's retro circular headlights and adds a roof rack, rock rails, Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires, 12.3-inch display, 8-way power-adjustable leather-trimmed front seats, and 14-speaker 720-watt JBL premium sound system. The First Edition is tempting, yet the 2024 Lexus GX is just $5,000 more. Every 2024 Land Cruiser comes with three years of Toyota Connect premium plan and two years of complimentary maintenance.
Verdict
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 250 is more Land Cruiser than the 2008 - 2021 Land Cruiser 200. Whereas the previous Land Cruiser was criticized for being too luxurious and overly large, the 2024 Land Cruiser is back to basics in such a good way that makes its ancestors proud.
Conclusion
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is indeed a worthy part of the venerated Land Cruiser lineage that started more than 70 years ago. Toyota describes the Land Cruiser as "the world's toughest hybrid that fits any lifestyle" and that description is correct. Whether you're a city folk who wants to look tough or you spend your days in the wilderness, the Land Cruiser can suit you. The Toyota Land Cruiser is surprisingly easy to live with thanks to its more manageable dimensions and fuel consumption. It's full of off-road tech like CRAWL and KDSS that make exploring the unexplored much easier, you can also turn them off if you want extra control and prefer a hands-on approach. While many SUVs do look generic, the Land Cruiser is hard to misidentify. Those looking for brute V8 power will be disappointed, since the Land Cruiser is only available as a hybrid with a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine. At least silent short-duration zero-emissions off-roading using the EV Mode is fun. Off-road purists will also miss the maneuverability of a shorter SUV and the joy of being one with nature without doors and roofs offered by the Ford Bronco and the Jeep Wrangler.

Yes, this is another retcon since I've decided to change Judy's new car to a Land Cruiser, her previous electric Audi is now not canon. Been thinking that even though Judy's rich, owning two $100K+ Audi seems a little unrealistic, especially given her status as a fox, an oppressed species. I also reconned Judy's other Audi, which she traded in to buy the Chevy Tahoe EV.
And by the way that title refers to the philosophy of the original Land Cruiser.

“Lifted minivan suffering an identity crisis” is a very good phrase if I’ve ever seen one.
love they made them affordable AND went back to a square body instead of the horrendous looking "bubbles" they had become.
Wow, she gets the tires and body dirty! Folks in my area do that - sometimes too many of them in a nice back country area.. https://bloximages.chicago2.vip.tow.....1211.image.jpg
