A quick thing before Swaptember ends! I had much bigger plans but the month got away from me unfortunately (I guess there’s always Swaptober lmao). Still, I’d love to do more Pokémon swaps in the future, they’re really fun hehe

Wrong place, wrong time - that seemed to be Remy’s motto, as much as they wished it wasn’t. Always stumbling into the worst scenarios at the worst possible moment and suffering the consequences, even if they didn’t deserve it. They wished they weren’t such a disaster magnet, but they had no time to dwell on it now, as they focused on the silver spoon in their yellow, three fingered hand.
Obviously, the raccoon’s hand wasn’t always yellow, nor did it have only three fingers. A voice from beside them grumbled - their own voice, coming from their original raccoon body. “No, no, you need to do more than simply concentrate on it. You need to truly hone in on it. Picture yourself as the spoon.”
“Kuhhh… dabra!!” Remy snapped. It was hard enough to picture themself being a spoon when they were so fixated on the fact that they were currently a Kadabra.
No one was quite sure what led to the appearance of Pokémon in dimension 35-V, but that didn’t stop people from wanting to befriend them regardless. Remy Margrove was one such Pokémon fan, the raccoon leaping at the chance to snag a Pokémon for themself, venturing into a nearby forest. They were hoping for a Raichu, or at least a Pikachu to later evolve into a Raichu, though they weren’t certain on how evolution was going to work without a Thunderstone but whatever. Didn’t matter. Remy just wanted a little electric critter friend!
Things went south, however, when they were creeping through the bushes, and, distracted by the several bug Pokemon they passed, they wandered blindly into a Kadabra, sitting on the forest floor and practicing its psychic powers. The bump startled the Kadabra while it was using a move, which seemed to trigger a burst of psionic energy that enveloped both it and Remy.
Before the raccoon knew it, they were no longer a raccoon. Their fur was yellow, their arms thinner with three scraggly clawed fingers instead of four stubby grey ones, and their feet were more like bird talons than adorable paws. A huge tail protruded from their abdomen, not dissimilar to their own one yet still somehow larger. Two moustache-like whiskers protruded from their thin fox-like face, which they tugged at out of confusion. And what was up with their chest? It was kind of like they were wearing the chestpiece and pauldrons of a bulky suit of armour.
And in the midst of the onslaught of disorientation, they let out a cry of shock, though it was not what they expected. “Khh… Kadabraaa???!”
Seeing their own raccoon body approach them only made their bewilderment grow tenfold. Their body spoke calmly, if a little wordy, and confirmed what Remy had been fearing - Remy and the Kadabra had swapped bodies.
That was a few hours ago. Since then, the Kadabra had come to the realisation that it - rather, his - own power was the trigger for this event, so it was up to Remy to fix things with their newfound abilities. Except, Remy wasn’t a psychic. They’d been one for the best part of six hours but they sure as hell didn’t know how to make things float or hypnotise people or whatever else psychics could do. All they could do now was train.
The training didn’t seem to be working, though. Remy focused on the simple task of bending a spoon with their mind, but the Kadabra kept giving vague instructions. “Focus on the spoon!” “No, you need to really focus!” “Become one with the spoon!” All that was doing was giving Remy a headache.
As they paused for a breather, they looked over to the Kadabra in their body, and gasped - he was balancing on Remy’s tail! Arms raised and feet pressed together in a meditative pose, the former Pokémon had somehow managed to channel a little bit of psionic energy through the raccoon’s body - he was even levitating a spoon right before its eyes!
The Kadabra glanced towards Remy, noting the still very much intact spoon. “Hmph. Even I, with your weak body and almost non-existent extra sensory talent, can manage to levitate.” The spoon circled around him, though the pink field of energy surrounding the spoon warbled and faded a bit as it did so, returning to full strength as the movement ended. “How can you possibly hope to gain the power to put us back in our rightful bodies if you cannot even simply bend a spoon?”
He was right. Remy felt strained already, but they had to try harder. The Kadabra’s powerful psychic abilities were right there for the taking; they just had to try harder. Remy’s body sure as heck wasn’t gonna solve this problem, not even with a powerful psychic creature stuck inside it - if they couldn’t do it, they’d never swap back. Once more, they picked up the spoon with their left hand, and splayed out their right above it.
“Khhhhhh…”
Their muscles tensed. Their eyes narrowed.
“Dhhhhhh…”
All else in the world ceased to exist. All that was before them was a small silver spoon.
“Brrrrrrhhhhh…!!”
For the briefest of moments, a transparent pink field of energy enveloped the spoon, and it rattled in their tight grip. “KADABRA!!!” Remy beamed, thrusting their spoon-holding claw into the air.
The Kadabra sighed. “At this rate, I fear we have little option but to adjust to our new forms.”
“Kadah!!!” Remy pouted. They needed positive reinforcement and the Kadabra in their body wasn’t helping, so they waddled over and bonked them on the forehead with their spoon, causing him to lose focus and fall to the ground in a grey and orange heap.
Still, maybe he was right. How long was it going to take to reach even a fraction of the Kadabra’s extra sensory prowess? And for that matter, the swap was caused by accident - how were they going to re-enact that? Would they even be able to? Was it a fluke? A one time thing? A total coincidence? The very real possibility that Remy was stuck as a Kadabra forever was dawning on them, and without psychic powers, they’d be stuck as the WORST Kadabra ever - they’d just be a dude with a big tail and a stupid moustache.
…That was what tipped them back from doom and gloom to fierce determination. They didn’t wanna be stuck with a stupid moustache forever! Although maybe they were more like whiskers… Bah! Didn’t matter. Remy was going to make this work, no matter how long it took. They swiped the spoon from the grass beneath them and focused on it once more.
The Kadabra, dazed, sat up and watched his body try to perform the insultingly simple task once more. He smiled. “For what you lack in mental ability, you seem to make up for with resolve. Admirable.”
Remy made no further progress that day. Or the next. Or the next. Unfortunately, resolve didn’t count for much.

What a fun swap idea!
If Remy never figures out how to get back into their raccoon body directly, then maybe they can do the next best thing: use their Kadabra-body abilities to seize remote control of the raccoon! With a pink transparent field around the raccoon body, Remy can pilot it almost like it’s their own! And when it’s time to take a nap…well, you can keep the raccoon in idle mode, stuck stiff as a statue in the psychic grip until it’s time to use them again. :P
