Letters to Leo the Patriotic Lion: #44
Dear Mr. President:
I wish to thank you and your Congress for passing the bill related to Camp Lejeune's contaminated water problem; I had served in the U.S. Marine Corps during that period, as did my brother. I wasn't stationed at Camp Lejeune, but he was, and he sadly died as a result of that drinking water. The compensation we are getting because of this will help our family out entirely, and I know you have always been a big military supporter yourself.
I guess my question is this: we know you are associated with the U.S. Lion Corps Band, but do they belong to a specific branch of our military? They play for the whole military, and I am grateful for them; my cousin plays trombone for them.
Sincerely,
Captain Lewis Jorgenson, age 42 (lion)
Jacksonville, North Carolina, USA
Leo's reply:
Dear Cpt. Jorgenson:
Although the U.S. Lion Corps Band supports the military as a whole, the branch to which all those lions belong to is the Army. Likewise, there is a U.S. Tiger Corps Band that does this, but their branch is the Navy. The fact they support they military as a whole dates back to their dates of performing at the Army-Navy football games (they don't do on a regular basis but periodically still do), but they were getting death threats from humans who turned out to be among the earliest recorded CNG smugglers. (They didn't understand the rivalry, they said; they preached there was no reason for the Army and Navy to hate one another when both branches did us a great service. However, they did not know what they were saying. But it was better to play it safe than sorry.)
It is our pleasure to give back to those who protect us. I do wish we had spotted it sooner, but there is no reason for any water like to be contaminated, soldier or civilian. I thank you and your brother for your service, and I extend my sympathy on behalf of the Zanicchi Administration to you and the family.
Yours truly,
Leo Zanicchi, a.k.a. Leo the Patriotic Lion
President of the United States of America
NOTE: Leo and his administration later visited Cpt. Jorgenson and the family, and the grave of his brother; the lion gave the grave the military salute as Mechayote beat a muffled drum roll, leading to Tom the Patriotic Tiger playing "Taps" on his bugle.

Leo's forty-fourth letter.
Leo himself, G-52s, etc. © me and me alone
The character Mechayote, however, is joint-owned by Chuong and me.
IMPORTANT! Do not confuse fantasy with reality; in reality, Joe Biden is our President. But for the purposes of storytelling our stories about Leo as President, I am including the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 as among the bills he signed into law.

Chuong: Contaminated water like that should've stayed in the past. Also, with Liu being China's President, you Americans have access to China's technologies, especially if they involve improving the quality of life as well as nuclear power.
Shi: China has been long overdue for this change of opening ourselves to the world more. With us cooperating with the Americans and her allies, we are helping the world to become a much better place than before. No military facility should be mismanaged like that.
Zax: In my opinion, I would recommend closing down Camp Lejeune and cleaning the place up. In other words, completely demolish and clean up that place. The world is changing, military forces around the world want to improve their defenses, yet they look up to us in how we improve our defenses. There's more demand for guns than armored vehicles as well.
Juno: In the world of peace, along with improving our defensive capabilities and helping the world to do the same, guns and lasers are more important than military vehicles. It doesn't take much resources to produce antimaterial and anti-armor weaponry as it does with military vehicles.
Chuong: Take a lesson from my country; no matter how much armor you have and how big your weapons are, defensive tactics, especially with good weapons, always wins. Look at Finland; their snipers are their greatest defenders. It's why Finland freed itself from the Russian Empire.
Zachary: Finland is also home to Leku the Silent Lion. If you invade Finland and you see him, game over because he already saw you first as a sniper.

Leo: I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that either. In any case, I think the odds are that we will close down Camp Lejeune and replace it with just clean nature. The bill we passed into law was about providing monetary relief to those that were affected. The lion soldier who wrote a letter to me reported that his family got $400,000 out of the deal, for example.
Super C: I'm still baffled by the fact there was contaminated water in the first place, let alone the fact it went from 1953 all the way to 1987 before somebody finally did something about it.
Boomcat: Our Marines will have to be stationed somewhere else.

Zachary: Excellent choice Leo! With a mess like that, leave nothing behind after cleaning up.
Chuong: 34 years too long.
