It's called an Iterator. One of the numerous. Countless, even. However, in reality all iterators are tied between each other, composing one single entity.
Once upon a time, a man, a hero, a fool, commited a cardinal sin. With the aid of Chthonic powers, he descended into the depths of shadow ocean and stole the knowledge of the Abyssal world. He observed the real world from a whole different perspective after gaining knowledge that mortals weren't supposed to possess.
But with it, he brought the Abyssal fury into existence, bringing three diseases into reality: Botrea's Rot, Equitrite's Petrification, and Iskontea's Blurring.
Wisdom of the Depths was eroding his psyche, and illnesses were ruining his body. After a sour realization that he cannot escape the malevolent void, he built magical vessels for fragments of his subconscious. Chthonic powers gave them life, separating his soul into countless creatures. As a result, the Iterators were born.
Each iterator is one aspect of its progenitor's psyche, which "grew" its own ego and became an entirely separate person.
However, this method of "salvation" was not optimal. Furthermore, many Abyssal mysteries were lost throughout the process of dividing the unconscious. And the Iterators have a better understanding of some aspects of Abyssal wisdom rather than all the knowledge of the Depths combined.
This Iterator was deceived by the folk of the physical world. He was swallowed by the Depths. The greedy and vindictive Abyss. The Depths devoured him, seeking revenge on the man who once had stolen their treasured knowledge.
This Iterator is trapped in a never-ending war with the shadow ocean itself. Doomed to fight the Depths for an eternity.
