no.9: Stitchpunks - 9
(suggested by LordBater)
9 is one of those films that I forget about until it's somehow brought up and then I immediately remember how much I enjoy it! While the concept wasn't anything new, it's execution and overall world it created was so compelling and interesting that it's a shame it didn't do better. It was one of the earliest examples of viral marketing and I didn't even know they did that until well after the fact. You can tell there was great love put into the project and that's one of the reason I can come back to the film time and time again. It's a dark horse title that certainly deserves respect, so how could I turn down getting to draw one of the titular 'stitchpunk' characters? Sure, I could have drawn any one of them or even them all but I felt 9 himself, in da Vinci's iconic Vitruvian Man just summed up the movie too well to not do it.

I'm pretty sure I have 9 specifically to thank for my long-standing focus on anatomical engineering whenever I've been turned loose in a workshop. I've got an entire arm made out of scrap wood and bits of electronic junk hanging over my desk in my office, and now that I think about it, it's got a similar aesthetic to the cobbled-together constructs from that film.
