BACKSTORY
=============================
Prince Darius Zenith Ravenhelm, (nicknamed "Diz" or "Dizzy") of the illustrious house of Ravenhelm, was born amidst a maelstrom of deceit and secrecy. His mother, Yulanthiel, was the queen and a direct descendant of the pure royal bloodline. His father, however, was not the elven king that the court believed him to be, but rather a dwarf named Zann Stonewood.
Yulanthiel's first husband, King Kaladmiel, was a gentle soul who held a soft spot for commoners and lesser nobility alike, a trait that won him few friends among the Ravenhelm court and outer relations. Certain members of the family made complaints about the king being to friendly, “lowering himself” to the commoners. He and Yulanthiel were deeply in love and had three daughters together. The Ravenhelm family elders griped about their lack of a male heir to inherit the throne as they are a patriarchy. Nevertheless, the royal couple was happy. However, their happiness was cut short when Kaladmiel was mysteriously 'poisoned'. The king's untimely demise was blamed on a curse by those he was known to favor, but in reality, the tragic event was orchestrated by Yulanthiel's power-hungry brother, Daemon.
With the king dead and no male heir, Yulanthiel was pressured to remarry quickly. Daemon, seeing an opportunity to grab power, proposed that he should marry his sister to maintain the purity of the royal bloodline. The Ravenhelm elders agreed to this incestuous suggestion but gave Yulanthiel five years to find a more suitable match after some pushback from the queen. During her search for a potential spouse, Yulanthiel met and fell in love with Zann Stonewood, a humble dwarf. This is a problem because as long as anyone could remember, dwarves and Elves HATE each other so very strongly. Furthermore, most Elves (and especially high elves) have always looked down on half breeds. they pride themselves on their pure high elf AND royal bloodlines. Their forbidden love affair resulted in a pregnancy, which Yulanthiel kept secret from the court for a time. Sensing that she was carrying the male heir they so desperately wanted, she decided to declare her pregnancy to the court, hiding the fact that the child's father was a dwarf, but barring her brother from wedding her and claiming the kingdom.
For 85 years, Diz grew up in the court of Ravenhelm, forever feeling out of place but not knowing why. His growth halted much earlier than other elves, and he found himself more interested in archery than his kingdom’s traditional arcane arts or longsword combat, much to the chagrin of his elven kin. His appearance remained mostly elven until his 84th birthday when his body began to morph, becoming quite muscular and stocky with a hirsute burst of body hair growth all over - clear signs of his dwarven heritage.
The revelation sparked a scandal that resulted in Daemon secretly ordering the murder of Zann Stonewood while publicly planning the exile of Yulanthiel and Diz. Before their official exile, Yulanthiel escaped with Diz to the small village near the mountains where the hidden dwelling of the Stonewood clan actually resides. Her plan was to renounce her elven immortality via an ancient ceremony blended into the secret wedding that sacrifices several thousands of years as the price to pay in order to share some of her lifespan with her true love, balancing their time so that they may grow old and die together. This was shattered by his sudden death, murdered right in front of her by a party of secret Ravenhelm agents on Daemon’s command-- Just after she had undone her elven immortality. They were captured and taken to be formally exiled where they were locked up after the ceremony was done, prepping to ship them out in the morning. It occurs that Diz was locked away in a separate chamber and she realizes that it is most likely that daemon killed both her husbands in seek of power. In that moment she realizes that the boy is in danger, being technically the next heir to the throne. Daemon will most likely seek to end anything that could challenge his claim to the throne. One final time, Yulanthiel uses the secret passages to escape with her son where they flee to the hidden Stonewood clan village. With a little convincing, explanation, and compassion, the two royal exiles were welcomed to live with them.
Living amongst the Stonewoods was a stark contrast to the opulence of the Ravenhelm court. Despite being jabbed at on occasion by hateful dwarves for his elvish nature, Diz gained a few close family and friends that helped him as he grew to appreciate the simplicity and strength of dwarven culture and used this time to master his archery, blending it with the arcane arts he was taught as a prince. His unique mix of elf-dwarf techniques made him a formidable fighter, a skill he planned to use to fulfill his vow.
Haunted by his mother's sorrow, the prospect of watching his mother age and slowly die over time, and the bitter injustice done to his family, Diz now spends his days honing his archery skills, blending it with arcane arts in ways no other elf or dwarf has seen before. His ultimate goal is to reclaim the throne, overthrow Daemon, and reshape the Ravenhelm kingdom into one that values merit over blood and love over power. With the combined strength of his elven and dwarven heritage, he is ready to face the challenges that lie ahead on his path to redemption.
