Bruce Lee studied Judo and Jiu Jitsu from Gene Labelle and small circle jiu jitsu from Wally Jay. If you have the Tao of Jeet Kune Do book, you see him diagram a list of judo and jiu jitsu techniques.
I like blocking the other ones kicks and punches that way you can say you're just protecting yourself self-defense... But if you block hard enough you can break their ankle or their wrist or their arm. I think that's why they teach you the blocks first because you don't have to do anything but block if you know how to block well ❤️🩹
