I added that leather covering on the handgrip. I figured it might look rather plain so I planned to wrap it in leather straps to spice it up a bit as a backup.
Unfortunately I didn't have suitable strips and the leather pieces I have is a bit too thin and have this hideous brown finish on one side of it. Besides, I probably wouldn't be able to cut nice straight lines as I lack the strip cutting tool and my scissors work is suspect.
I I used this braided cord (happens to be some shoelaces I had for a different project) as a "proof of concept" to see how it would turn out. I think it is not half bad. I need to get my paws on some leather versions and see how they compare. Either way, I like the way it give that more completed look. The straps can be untided and the cover removed to give access to the screws holding the wooden staff parts together so it can be disassemble for transport. Yes, there is a madness to my method, MUWHAHAHAHA!
BTW, I believe adding some of the cordage on the leather wrap at the bottom of the ankh symbol to make it match would be even better. I going to do it on the feet wrap (no pictured here) as well to round it all off.
Additionally, I plan on making those 3D printed plates with hieroglyphic writing as well as other stuff to add on the wooden staff parts itself. I probably just use contact cement to attach them after giving them some good coats of the same gold spray paint I used before. I might add the blue paint in the background of the plates but I have to see on that. It won't be the exact shade of blue as I did on the areas on the staff as I am running low on that color. Maybe I could use red, green, or even black paint. What do you think?
