Timeless: Not This One!
Illustration from late 2020.

It's said that the horse chooses its rider. This is something that happens sooner or later in the life of every Turvao Varanar.
In their early summers, the twins met the horses that would be their faithful steeds for a great portion of their lives, and Vygo bonded with Sitsi, a beautiful light blonde mare.
Indrys was jealous, her brother's horse was a real beauty. The most common colors among Turvao horses are rich browns and dark reds, and light tones are rare. The young girl wanted a horse equally as unique as the mare that now belonged to her twin. Dread overcame her when the horse that chose her ended up being a yearling bay stallion, named Badu.
Nothing about him was remarkable and his coat was the most common of colors.
She was furious!
Initially, Indrys refused to accept Badu as her steed, but the horse was as stubborn as the rider he had chosen. He would follow her everywhere, enter their yurt, break their things, nibble on her clothes, her hair, her tail. He would infuriate her as much as he would amuse her, and after much equine insistence, Indrys finally fell for him. She had to give credit where it was due, he was a special one. Maybe not on the outside, no, but it's the inside that matters, isn't it?
Nowadays, she wouldn't have any other horse over her big bay.

Illustration from late 2020. This is before I made modifications to the overall design of the Varanar, as well as their horses, therefore some things are now inaccurate, but the story this illustration tells is still very much canon, so I'm sharing it all the same. :)

Ahhh, young Indrys being a bit petulant, what a cute sight. And BADU! 8D I'm so glad he won her over. Who could ever resist him [for long]? :}===<
This sort of story, of how they got their horses, how their relationships with the animals came to be - it's a great detail, one that most people wouldn't think of. I mean 'horses are just horses / beasts of burden, right??'
But of course, as you've said and shown in so many ways, mounts are so very important in Varanar culture and life. It makes a lot of sense to flesh them out as much as you can.

Typical Ama, thinking more about the lives of her OCs than her own life! xD
Thank you sooooo much Ameee!! <3 YOU'RE THE BEST!!

Subject bears body parts with scales, possibly a hybrid of some sort. Possibly a lizard or a dragon.
Exact species unknown.
Ah, the bond between a horse and its rider…

She-dragon in humanoid form. :) Her species is called Varanar!
Gosh the atmosphere in your art is so amazing. And the depth as well, it looks like a real place- like a window into this world. I love it sooo much.
and ofc the worldbuilding. I love these dragon guys.

Tank you so much, I'm glad to hear it! I enjoy sharing their stories a lot! Hope to share more of them soon.

SO much love and attention went into these, I'm absolutely amazed. Wow!
Badu is a friend ❤️❤️

Thank you so much, Ana! Making these little grasses and plants and playing with them in different pics is one of my favourite things to do! And nature is one of my favourite subjects! ❤️❤️
"Nibble on her clothes, her hair, her tail" Welp I wasn't planning on being jealous of a Horse this weekend but here we are, just in time for me to drink it away tomorrow for New Years Eve XD
But seriously this is adorable and you just know Indrys is staring off of frame to where her brother is probably riding his steed around and absolutely fuming inside while poor Badu just tries to help. Good boy Badu, good boy

Hehe...yeah. Been working with horses for a few years now. They have just as much personality as humans do. <3
Hey Badu is a good boy trying to woo the stubborn lady. I can't help but imagine him as a big muscle gut anthro country boy.
Hahaha he would be a steppe nomad! And probably have Vygo's mare Sitsi as his girlfriend!
The framing of your art in a 21:9 aspect ratio, along with the stories in the description- really makes the mind race to think of the entire plot, story, as if a movie. I greatly appreciate your detailed work.
Thank you so much! Cinematic compositions are definitely my favorite to work with!
He's a stray cat(horse). She had no chance. They choose you and you'll give in eventually.
Oh gosh, I'd die for Badu, what a good lad ;w;
(just kick me if I'm in the way, I'll just be sitting here studying how you draw such amazing foliage ;A; )

He is the best pony!! (Though Sitsi is also the best pony!)
