When I came across the gallery of the highly talented Rowan.raedwulf I was immediately enthusiastic about the artists art style. Thank you very much for the fantastic work and the super friendly contact <3
I admit I have a soft spot for shows like the KFPS stallion selection ("De Koninklijke Vereniging "Het Friesch Paarden-Stamboek" / eng. The Royal Association of Friesian Horses-Studbook)
You can certainly have your own opinion about breeding and such events - in the end, a horse would prefer to graze in peace in the meadow and not be presented to thousands of people with loud music. And yet there is something dignified about the new generation stepping into the spotlight to be celebrated and demonstrate their talents.
This is perhaps only comparable to our moments when, after years of school and stressful exams, we finally stand in front of our teachers and loved ones and are celebrated because we have mastered this big step in life... Or when a loved one entrusts us with a family heirloom, asking us to look after it and pass it on when the time comes.
In this commission I wanted to show my Friesian stallion character Steppenfire in a noble headdress and bridle... already worn by many of his ancestors... as a worldly symbol of a connection that transcends generations... and with which he thereby enters into a bond that will endure beyond death when others wear it.
Jewellery of gold and velvet, with cut red garnet and horses symbolising the ancestors of his line.

Do not feel indebted to your ancestors
for they were flawed like you
It is you who shapes your future
and your own past is a more important legacy than that of your ancestors
But remain humble in remembrance,
for without your ancestors you would not be here
They paved the way for you...
they have invented
Maintain these paths and walk new ones...
and innovate
Their wind grips your sails, guiding you to new shores
As long as our stories are told
we are all immortal
