Alright kids then let me tell you this legend.
Take your favorite plushy, wrap into your blanket and listen the story of The Fae Mélusine.
Long time ago in the Kingdom of France, when kings were still ruling in these lands, was a young man named Raymondin.
Raymondin was with his brother the nephews of a powerfull Count of a France région. The Count loved his nephew he was a member of his family but the chidrens of the Count were seeing Raymondin as a threat and the young man was aware of it.
One day the Count organised a hunt game with his court, knights, children and nephew. The hunt began early in the morning and when the rays of the dawn were passing through the leaves and branches of the forest's tree, The Count and Raymondin spotted a wild boar.
They tracked the animals for hours and as time passed only Raymondin and his uncle were brave enough to continue the track. The sun was at its zenith when the Count wounded the animal. They followed the trail of blood and reached the animal.
The Count wanting to have the satisfaction of the hunt asked Raymondin to stay afar and cover his back with the crossbow while he was acheving the boar. He approched carefully but there is nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal.
The boar in one move turned and was menacing the Count. Enraged and determined to survive, he was scrapping the earth ready to charge.
The Count throw his spear ! He touched the boar but it wasn't enough to kill the animal. Worst the boar charged !
Raymondin despite his numerous hunt game before was frozen. He was stunned by the boar's vivacity and afraid to steal the trophy to his uncle he was unable to move.
The young man was extracted from his torpor by the yells of his uncle ordering him to kill the beast !
In the rush Raymondin pressed the lever of the crossbow. A scream of pain, a spurt of blood and the heavy sound of carcass falling from all its weight on the ground.
Not a bird, not an insect, not branch, not a leaf. Nothing. The forest was silent. In this gloomy silence Raymondin approched to see the beast he achived.
At the wiew of the carcass Raymondin turned livid. It was not a boar but his uncle.
The Count was lying here, his eyes livid empty from all life, a crossbow trait stuck deep in his throat. The blood still warm was flowing from the wound and was making a red little stream tinting the rocks and ground around him.
Afar the echo of an hunting horn brought back Raymondin to the reality. Despite being an accident, the count's sons will take the situation to evict him once for all. Explaining what happened will be useless, the facts was here : they were alone, he was holding the crossbow and his uncle was lying dead with the trait in his throat.
Raymondin didn't thought more and ran straight in the forest.
The light was decreasing and the sun were leaving the place to the moon.
Raymondin was still running... or staggering more precisely. Since noon he was on the run and never made a halt to recover his breath.
Around midnight, the young man reached a clearing. In the space free of tree, on the ground and covered in moss the fundations of house which now was ruins.
Near the ruins was a fountain. Raymondin approched, he stepped on old iron plate. Half covered in moss and eaten away by rust, the engraved letter remaining were announcing : "La Fontaine de la soif." "The thirst fountain".
Approaching he stumbled. Aching from pain and sadness, the young man was crying for his gesture and the memory of his uncle whose he betrayed.
Tiredness slowly taking him away in the dreams realm he closed his eyes. Behind the dark of his eyelids, the young man thought to hear voices. Was it him dreaming ?
He let his conscience wander within his thoughts. He could hear the voices again. He opened his eyes and listen his surrounding carefully. He heard giggles nearby.
Raymondin get up to see near the fountain three women. The ladies greeted him and seeing his precious clothes torned and his face scratched they concluded the man was not a commoner. The ladies asked who he was and where he came from.
Raymondin told his story to hers and saddened once of them introduced her.
Mélusine was her name. She was a beautifull woman, a beauty that everyone could think she was coming directly from eden.
Mélusine propose to Raymondin to help him to get innocented, to make the man a powerfull lord, giving him prosperity, felicity, happiness and a decendance if he marry her.
Raymondin accepted but Mélusine put an ultimate condition to the wedding. The condition was that Raymondin must not search to look at her every saturday.
Raymondin found it strange but Mélusine asked him to not ask why.
The young man pondered the offer and thought one day per week was a lost price to pay to come back to an happy life.
Mélusine helped Raymondin to be innocented as promised. The wedding was celebrated and Raymondin became a powerfull lord.
As promised each saturday, he was leaving Mélusine alone.
Their wedding were fruitfull and Mélusine gave ten children to his husband. Ten strong and beautifull children at one detail : all of them expect two were born with physical anomaly.
Urien, the first who will become king of Chypre had a short face, one of his eye was green while the other was red and he had the biggest ears than a kid could have.
Eudes, have an ear bigger than his other.
Guyon, who will become king of Arménie have an eye higer than his other.
Antoine, who will become Duke of Luxembourg, have a lion paw or claw on his cheek.
Renaud, future king of Bohemia have only one eye.
Geoffroy was born with a proturding wild boar tusk.
Fromont who will become monk, have on his nose a hairy spot.
Horrible, incredibly tall with three eyes and so ferocious that he killed his two nannies at the age of 4.
Thierry and Raymonnet the two last one are normal.
Hélas this happyness didn't lasted long.
After few years of wedding, Raymondin's brother jealous. His brother was envying the power, fortune, titles and hapiness of Raymondin. On purpose he started to spread rumors against his brother's wife. The venom spread and soon Raymondin heard about the rumors and doubt assaulted his heart.
As Raymondin was crossing his lands, one day his brother invited him. Pointing the fact he was always on the road and coming back to his castle early in the saturday morning, his brother asked Raymondin why his wife needed to hide in her appartements if it was not to wash her body of an adultery proof or worse... to hide a lover !
These words had the effect of a dagger in the heart of Raymondin. Without waiting he rode untill his castle all the night.
In the first lights of the saturday morning he arrived.
He climbed to his wife appartment to only found closed door. Knocking and hiting the door he ordered to Mélusine to open the door.
Reminding him the promise he made to her, Mélusine refused to open the door.
It was for Raymondin the proof of her betreyal !
Pushed by the jealousy and anger, the young man draw his sword and with all his strenght broke into Mélusine bathroom.
Hélas for Raymondin it was not a lover he discovered and that Mélusine was hiding.
In a bathtub, Mélusine was here but instead of her legs there was a snake tail.
Betrayed by her husband, Mélusine rushed to the window and broke the glass in a scream of despair, flying away like she had the weight of a feather.
Mélusine ran away from the castle and found refuge in the caves nearby. She never came back to the castle only to announce by a scream of despair the sooner death of a member of Raymondin family or when the castle owner change.
Legend say she came by night sometimes to see and watch secretly her children and grand-children.
The legend also say that in the river nearby, we could find : les larmes de Mélusine (Mélusine's tears). It is stones that we can found in the bottom of the river and the stone may have the power to ease and heal irritated eyes.
Now you know the légende de la Fée Mélusine. =)
