Annd the Planeswalker side for Ajani! This is the moment where he first receives his Spark that allows him to walk between planes - filled with grief over his brother's death (Jazal, who is featured in the background of Nacatl Pariah) and set on a path to try and avenge him.
I didn't realize up until this assignment that most Planeswalkers have a visual spark effect that is unique to them. For Ajani it's apparently a bright white light with glowing arcs! Had a lot of fun with this one too, interesting to try and get the glow effect to look right in traditional media.
This one was also painted in acrylics on paper!

The glow looks gorgeous Caraid. Congrats on getting such a high-profile card, you deserve it!
Haven't built a Selesnya deck yet, but this gorgeous Ajani art makes me want to.
Oh! I am curious though if you did/ are doing any cards for the upcoming Bloomburrow set?

This specific card is Boros, though, so good news if you prefer that color combo.
I should have 1 or 2 cards in Bloomburrow! Sadly I was super busy when commissions for that set went out and I had to pass on most of it :c
Oh I didn't even notice you were the artist for this side! Fantastic work, and it's a pretty important moment to illustrate for this character
Both of the Ajani illustrations are incredible! Do you use any slow drying medium with your acrylics for these?
Thank you! I did not, just used the acrylics as-is! I did a lot of washes :’D
This is a fabulous 'I have the powerrrr' sort of look / moment / aesthetic. :D
Fearsome vengeance, yet so adorable because of the beans. :D
Of course he's awesome and adorable in equal measure, but you did such a great job, thank you for such a great piece of an amazing character. :D

When I saw Ajani was getting one of these planeswalker origin cards, I lost my mind. Then I further lost my mind when I saw the art and realized you had drawn him. Just about squealed. I absolutely love the way you drew him and I can't wait to have the card. <3
Ahh thank you so much! I’m really happy with the way they look on the card too!
Yeah he's the most huggable to me. and he definitely needs a lot of hugs love and a long vacation after what he's gone through.
Absolutely amazed by your traditional media skills as usual. Seeing this one a tad bigger than what I can see on Twitter really makes me appreciate the subtletly in the brushstrokes - specially on his left hand. I can imagine painting an effects-heavy illustration such as this one is a lot more complicated than it is on digital art, and despite all of that this still looks gorgeous!
Thank you so much! It was definitely an interesting challenge, I had to plan really well for where the effects would go, but I'm happy with the way it came together!
Hrm... I could've swore Ajani had black pads. But maybe it just depends on the artist.
