Hello everycreature again! Here is a completely new freshly baked artwork for all of you hehe. For this occasion, another interpretation of my typical silly ideas :P Of course, with the help of two of my favorite dragons nwn
If you're not familiar with this sport you may be really confused, but well, this artwork is inspired on a sport about which I've been learning a lot, especially since last World Championship and after buying a game about it a couple of months ago. Of course, I'm talking about rugby. It is basically a form of American Football played in a more fluid way and with other mechanics, but still works carrying the ball around the field. Both sports are really interesting for me, but rugby has been increasing in my continent in the last years due to several proposals and its interest has been growing
The point of this whole explanation basically was that making an artwork about rugby was a great thing to try for me. First, because there aren't many drawings of this sport and it could be an interesting contribution, second because it is a sport with tackles, so a tackle was a challenging thing to draw, also tackles can be hugs sometimes too :3 And third, I wanted to draw Goldigony and Spike once again hehe and I needed a good excuse :P
This artwork wasn't easy at all. Postures were really complicated and since it happened this things of some body parts being in front and other ones behind, those kinds of things creates a small "layers nightmare" in Krita projects and since I'm a bit short of RAM on my PC it could sometimes be a trouble. I still did my best with all the elements of the artwork, and I think the result was pretty nice and I'm happy with it. I should keep practicing with those kinds of hard postures, I can learn a lot of things from these processes.
It seems those two had troubles with buckball, but they may have some talent for rugby, don't you think? Having hard scales and flying could be a good advantage if you ask me :P

You have done a lot of great art since the last time I have been able to go through my Submissions Folder. I admire how much you have been able to share and accomplish in such a short period of time.

Like I shared with your "Test In Progress" with Princess Luna, I lovejust love how you keep on finding ways to challenge yourself as an artist. Whether you are seeing if you can do a better job showing a pose, background, lighting, etc. you always manage to prove how all someone must do is, as the title of this artwork suggests, "Try, Try, Try". Through dedication and determination, you may just surprise yourself with what you can do now that you may have never thought you could have done before.
***
American Football / Rugby would be a great game for dragons. Perhaps it would be Princess Ember who would introduce it to the ponies of Equestria? I would imagine the Griffons would be all for such a game and would love to test their skills and strength against the dragons of The Dragon Lands.
***
I also like how you point out how tackles are kind of like hugs. It explains how, for awhile here on FA, the phrase *Tacklehug* would be used to show friendliness towards each other. :)
***
I need to save this picture as, yet again, I can see a story unfolding around it. I just love how you get me to feel so inspired through your descriptions coupled with how you just never stop finding new ways to make cute things even cuter. :)

Drawing helps me a lot with my stress of unemployment , helps me feel useful and proud of myself, so, I do it every time I don't feel I want to do something else.
Thank you so much for your nice words Yosh, all of them mean a lot to me. It has a lot of sense that Ember or maybe other dragons like Garble, introduced the sport to pony lands, especially since it is a rough sports where strength is really important.
Oh, also, I wanted to mention that in rugby, there are three ways of scoring, but the most important one, the equivalent to touchdowns in American Football, is called "try", that's why the artwork is called that way in case you didn't know.
I'll be waiting for the story about this artwork then :3

I did not know that is one way to score in Rugby. I'll have to do more research on the game before making the story for these two rough-and-tumble cuties.

I always appreciate the opportunity to learn new things. Along with how you find creative ways to challenge yourself as an artist, I must also give you credit for being a fantastic educator through your posts. I always seem to learn something new through your well-written descriptions. :)

Awww you really think I'm doing well to teach things Yosh. Since it is going to be about 40% of my future job it really means a lot to me.

aww goldigony looks so pretty wearing her red shirt and her pretty diaper spike loooks so cute wearing his red shirt and his cute diaper while goldigony and spike are playing rugby and trying to tackle and hug each other super precious
Hey, Sweetie! Here's what I came up with for a story. It is a little bit of Rugby, a little bit of American Football, and a little bit of Yosh E. O'Ducky creativity. I hope you like it...
Try, Try, Try
It was a warm, autumn afternoon in Canterlot as Spike and Goldigony faced each other in an open field within the castle gardens.
“Now we will see just how much a dragon you really are,” remarked the green-colored dragoness.
Spike, who was purple in color, looked upset over his roommate’s statement.
“Auntie Celestia says I am a dragon,” he not-so-confidently replied.
Goldigony held out a ball for the emerald-eyed dragon to take hold of.
“You’re no fun,” she stated. “Trash talk is part of playing Try, Try, Try.”
“Why would you want to talk about trash while playing a game?” wondered Spike as he took hold of the ball. “And why is it called Try, Try, Try?”
“Because…,” Goldigony began to reply as she gestured towards the other side of the field that was behind her. “You have to try, try, try to make it all the way to the other side of my territory without dropping that ball in order to score a point.”
Spike appeared confused as he glanced at the oval-shaped ball in his hands.
“So it is like playing tag with a ball?” he asked.
Goldigony smirked.
“Yeah,” she replied. “If you replace tagging some creature with tackling some creature.”
“Tackling?” wondered Spike. “Isn’t that what you say when you have a lot of homework to do, or a big test that is going to be super hard to finish?”
Goldigony’s smirk grew even wider across her face.
“Let’s just play and I’ll show you what a tackle is when you try to run past me,” she said while eagerly bending herself down into a sprinting position.
“Okay…,” replied Spike as he nervously held the ball against his chest. “When do I start trying to run past you.”
Goldigony narrowed her eyes and glared towards Spike.
“Right now,” she stated with anticipation.

As the young dragons prepared to play Try, Try, Try, Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia stood watching to see how this experiment in bringing a bit of Dragon Land culture to Canterlot would unfold.
“Given of what little I was able to research about this game,” Twilight Sparkle, who was a purple-coated Unicorn, stated. “I do believe both players should be wearing more than just their diapers for protection.”
“It does seem like a game that is far more hooves on than Buckball,” added Celestia as her ethereal mane flowed elegantly without even the slightest of breezes blowing through it. “However, as it is a Dragon Land custom, it is our responsibility to ensure that Spike and Goldigony are exposed to more than just our Equestrian ways.”

STOMP-STA-STOM-STOMP
CLASP-BOOM
“Ouch!” cried Spike as he quickly found himself brought down hard on his padded tooshie. “That hurt!”
CRINKLE-RUSTLE
STA-STOMP
“That’s Try, Try, Try,” Goldigony grinned as she brought herself up from where she had tackled Spike to the ground. “You get four tries at getting past me to score a goal and that was a pathetic try.”
The purple-colored dragon looked towards Twilight and Celestia who both gave him a reassuring nod and smile of encouragement.
“Okay, pony boy,” Goldigony teased. “Let’s see if your second try is better than your first.”
Spike gulped nervously as he took notice of how his fellow dragon seemed far too eager to slam him to the ground.
“One, one thousand,” she counted. “Two, one thousand.”
Spike gripped the ball tightly against his chest with both hands as he remembered another rule of Try, Try, Try. This being that that the other person, or team, was allowed to tackle the one who was holding the ball if they took longer than a count of five to begin their run with the ball.
“Three, one thousand,” Goldigony continued to count. “Four, one thousand.”
CRINKLE-PAD-PIT!
PAD-PIT-RUSTLE!
“AH!” cried Spike as he gathered all his courage to begin his run past Goldigony.
WHOOSH!
The blue-eyed dragoness was so excited to reach the count of five that she was completely caught by surprise when Spike suddenly ran past her.
CRINKLE-SKRIT!
“Nice try!” she exclaimed. “But you can’t outrun me!”
***
Princess Celestia and Twilight Sparkle anxiously watched to see what would happen as Goldigony started to catch up to Spike.
“I think he’s about to score,” stated the white-coated, Alicorn leader of all Equestria.
“I think he’s going to get hurt,” Twilight panicked.
***
WHOOSH!
CLASP!
“WHOA!” Spike screamed as Goldigony dove towards him, wrapped her arms around his torso, and dragged him down to the ground.
PWOOM!
“Hey!” stated Goldigony with a look of surprise. “You didn’t drop the ball!”
Despite being brought down hard only a very short distance from the goal line, Spike had successfully kept the oval-shaped ball clenched against his chest.
“Thanks…,” he replied while beginning to pick himself up from the ground. “Now what?”
Goldigony, now covered in grass stains after putting her all into tackling Spike, smiled towards her fellow dragon as she stepped in front of him.
“You get your third try to get past me and into the goal,” she said while wagging her tail with anticipation. “You won’t get past me this time, little dragon.”
Hearing Goldigony recognize him as a dragon was a compliment that Spike had hardly expected. It was also just what he needed to gather his courage to show that he could, once again, make his way past her to score a goal.
“Alright, Goldy,” he stated while looking her straight in the eyes. “You aren’t going to stop me this time!”
I left off here to allow a reader to come up with their own outcome of Spike's efforts to score a goal. (I also wanted to allow your image to have a better chance to show how the game may have gone after what I had just written for the reader to enjoy.)
I had some serious Writer's Block for the past few days. Writing this got me out of it. I hope it came out well and shows how, despite how they may not always get along the best, Goldigony and Spike are able to appreciate each other as friends.

It's okay to be blocked sometimes Yosh. I'm glad you could write this story even so, and also, I hope my most recent submission can inspire you at least a bit.
I liked how the story included a curious variation of rugby to be nicely played between two. It sounds really interesting and fun, especially for dragons who would surely not experience a lot of pain when getting hit and tackled. Sounds like the typical game to be played between brothers or forever friends in the backyard. Also, I liked how Spike was a little bit extra silly in this story, and Goldigony being too competitive hehe.
This is then a great chance to tell you some interesting things about rugby if you allow me.
Rugby's world cup trophy is officially called Webb Ellis trophy in honor to a British student who, according to a famous legend, one day in school when playing soccer, having such a frustrating game, decided to carry the ball with both hands and run to the other side of the field, this way creating for the very first time the rugby. Historians consider this story has no sense or evidence, but the legend stands and Webb Ellis is still considered the creator of rugby.
Rugby is usually considered a game full of respect to the rivals. In several sports it is easy to see how rivals fight against each other due to referee decisions or so, in rugby this is not common, and even if they don't like them, players usually accept their mistakes and referee decisions.
One of the most interesting things about rugby in comparison to American Football is that it works on a fluent way. American Football is played with tons of interruptions, every time a player is down, the game is interrupted and a new play begins less than a minute after. In rugby that basically never happens, game occurs fluidly for several minutes. In rugby, when a player is tackled, which in American Football would mean a down and an interruption, in rugby is usually formed a ruck. During a ruck, the tackled player is in the ground and allowing the ball to be carried, but player of both teams are pushing each other in the place where the ball stands trying to recover ball possession, if the rival team pushes strong enough they can move the other players and recover the ball. Whoever can recover the ball from that situation will eventually pass, carry or kick it to start a new play. It is really interesting because you can see several minutes of game without any kind of interruption until the ball goes out, someone score or a foul is comited.
Rugby also includes several interesting rules for me. According to the rules, tackles has to be done on the rival's waist, charging their shoulders and even more their heads and neck is completely forbidden and usually resulting in match expelling. My favorite rule in rugby is the penalty try. Let me explain, in rugby, placing the ball over the line for a try gives you five points, and kicking it through the posts gives you two extra points, pretty much like in American football. If a player commits a foul where the rival is clearly going to score a try, there is called a penalty try and the seven points are automatically given to the affected team. And one final curiosity about the rules is that a yellow card gives you 10 minutes suspension while a red card expels you from the game definitively. A new rule introduced for 2023 world cup stands that yellow cards are checked in the video booth during the 10 minutes suspension and then there is decided if it stays as a yellow card or it is upgraded to red card.
There are other ways of scoring in rugby apart from the tries. When a penalty is committed against you team, one of your options is trying to kick straight to the posts from the position of the foul. If you succeed, you earn three points, same if you score via a drop goal, which is basically, during the normal game, taking the ball, dropping it in the ground and immediately kicking it through the posts. That play is by the way also legal in American Football, but barely used, there are just like three or four examples in the NFL history if I'm not wrong. Curiously, South Africa, world champions in 2023 against New Zealand, won the final match without scoring a single try, they scored only penalties in the entire match and they would still able to raise the trophy.

I think I would enjoy watching Rugby a lot more than American Football. You are very correct in how many times an American Football game is stopped for one reason, or another. This, to me, slows it down too much. Knowing that Rugby is played, for the most part, until the ball is knocked out of bounce gives it a perfect blend of Football / Soccer with American Football.

The legend behind how Rugby came to be is most interesting. I am sure being there to see that player just run the football / soccer ball all across the field out of frustration would have been quite a sight. I could see something like that done in a Comedy film. The actor is tasked to show how they are tired of being stopped from playing the game so they just pick up the ball and start running for the goal. Maybe the actor in the movie already got a penalty put on them that would take them out of the game? In any case, I like the story and choose to believe in such a great origin for Rugby. (Maybe a movie has already been made on how Rugby came to be a sport?).
***
I am glad you enjoyed the story. It was simple, but I felt it captured the spirit of two adorable dragons playing a game that, if in The Dragon Lands, would have been far rougher than if played in the gardens of Canterlot Castle. (I wanted to include Sweetie Dash as the one who suggested that they expose Goldigony and Spike to more of their own culture, but I could not think of how to do it without getting too far off from the two dragons playing the game.).
***
I look forward to checking out your most recent submission. You always have a great way to inspire my creativity. Even if I cannot make a story, I have found that your art and artistic descriptions help me to feel like I am seeing what is before me instead of the random color my blindness gives me at a given time. (Right now, I am seeing almost nothing but darkness. However, depending on my anxiety and stress level, I will see grey, grey and black, baby blue, lime green, and an orangish yellow.).
