"Mmmmmm... So good! Gramps can say all he wants about humans, but ya gotta admit they know how to make a good takoyaki! Three more plates, please!"
Yeah, like I said, Xingzhe occasionally likes to sneak into the human settlements outside the jungle canopy to indulge in his love for takoyaki. I like to think that he ventured out into the human world out of curiosity and came across a takoyaki stand and fell in love with this snack ever since. Fortunately he hasn't been putting on too much weight as a result...
Also, let's hope his grandfather doesn't find out about this...

My headcanon is that he's Winston and Grodd's long-gestating lovechild, stolen away at birth and raised in another universe.
That'd be hilarious considering Xingzhe is closer to an ape/monkey, while Grodd and Winston are gorillas. Though I now am thinking that if this were true, he'd blame the two for his fat he's become saying "they gave it to me".
Maybe the transition between dimensions did a wibbly-wobbly on his genes and he grew a tail.
Or maybe because his pops got so much tail, he go one, too. <3
Technically, apes are distinct from monkeys largely because of their lack of tails. Gorillas are apes, so there could always be the chance. ;3c But I know what you mean. And hey, there's plenty of monks who have great guts.

The moment one of the village members learns how to make Takoyaki, it's all over
