The Great Fursona Timeline
This project was several days in the making! It started with me doodling a few of my very first fursonas just for fun but then it spiraled into this. This is 97% of the designs I've used to represent myself in one way or another from the years 2002 to 2024.
WOLFY:
1) This version of Wolfy is very inspired by the works of Tim Burton, which I grew up with and consumed constantly. I drew several what I believed to be "core" aesthetics from three different films. The pin-striping and lanky build is from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The facial scars and wild hair were pulled from Edward Scissorhands. The stripes on the tail, naturally, came from Beetlejuice. I have a few very old crunchy pngs of this version floating around on my computer from 2002.
2) What I like to call "Little Wolfy" was a style I drew in for a very long time. I did not draw much difference between quad and bipedal Wolfy, they were both very stubby and round but I would occasionally put bipedal Wolfy in clothes. I used this version for RP with friends on AIM and Yahoo. I started imagining a story for her around this time but she would not split off into her own character until much later. She had stitches on her back from losing her wings in an RP with a friend from the sailor moon message boards I used to frequent as a kid. She had no solid origin but she lived in halloween town with JW in a house on a hill.
3/4) This Wolfy lasted from the tail end of highschool into college and all the way up to 2012. The bipedal and anthro Wolfies were used interchangeably but had markedly different builds. I started drawing anthro Wolfy closer to my IRL body and hair. This version of Wolfy had a small series of glowing purple scars peppering her muzzle which I added after escaping some toxic friendships. I also rarely drew the wing stubs on quad Wolfy that I can remember. I had started to get serious about my original characters and their own worlds as almost all the OCs I had with fandom origins had entirely migrated over to unique, non derivative stories. I started to seperate anthro and quad wolfy as characters in my mind. Anthro Wolfy was "me" but quad Wolfy changed a little here and there and was used in furcadia and private forum roleplay as part of my cast of characters. Wolfy was retired in 2013 but I kept the name for myself.
EKKO and ENIGMA
These two were the first example I think of me having two personas that interacted. They were created as a pair of muses, sisters, who represented two warring sides of my artistic thoughts. They lasted from 2007-20011ish and were used on and off in personal art.
Ekko was my muse for bright colors and doing things that were at the time considered 'cringe' by me. Her name came from the song Ekkosangen. Enigma was the hardass who represented my obsession with things as they "really were" or "should be" and how i wanted to be taken super seriously. I was way up my own ass for a while about narrative and design and what other people did in fandoms. I used to be stupidly against OCxFandom ships and fanfiction that was anything but rigidly canon-matching. Oh, baby Wolfy. You were so angry at other people having fun. Enigma's role was to fight with and hurt Ekko.
SKELLADRENSY
Skelladrensy (originally coined as Kellything) was from my first real whack at making an original species. I dont remember what I called them. Imps? Maybe. Or Imagination Sprites? I used to have a little angelfire page about them but it's lost to time. She also came into being around 2007-8 when I was in college. She very quickly developed into her own character along side a character I had named Spookypants who became her older brother. Skelladrensy mostly sat around and looked ominous.
DUSTY DAYS
I made Dusty in 2010 when Friendship is Magic took the world by storm. MLP was my first big fandom besides Pokemon and Tim Burton. I loved it growing up but this time an active FANDOM sprang up and I participated in it. I was very tentative about making a self insert character and of course I made her brown because I was still obsessed with being 'very serious' and 'down to earth'. I was afraid to be TOO colorful. I judged everyone's ponysonas so hard. Her job was at a storage facility and she had a super memory so she remembered where everypony's stuff was. A little homage to some horse characters I have that live in a dimension called The Attic and fight over the memories of humanity.
CHIRRUP
Chirrup was a short-lived experimental fursona I made to hang out with my friend Samyena's birdsona. She was just me but a bird. A vague idea of her living in a giant parking lot and eating french fries was about as far as that one went. this was 2012-2013ish.
CROWNLESS
You know this guy! Crownless appeared in 2012. He was my first foray into experimenting with my gender. I chose a deer because of the deciduous nature of their antlers and how, at a distance, sometimes you can't tell a male from a female deer. At this time I was playing around with going by he/she. I was not yet comfortable with they. I experimented with my style a LOT with Crownless. Drawing her in all kinds of different ways. I occasionally gave her red/orange wings and the persona of The Peryton to represent my anger. I also occasionally drew her with a vulture's body. But I forgot about both of those until this moment so woops. Those only broke out for special occasions. I might draw a new picture with a bunch of Crownless variations. In 2020 I had some kind of mental snap with my OCD and abandoned Crownless pretty harshly for a good long while. I also didn't want anything to do with DEER in general. Luckily, I started using him again a couple years ago and now use her in tandem with Crash.
DESSY
Dessy, or "Destroyer", was a dragon sona I once again made to hang out with my friend Samyena's dragon sona XD I drew a ton of inspiration from the old movie The Flight of Dragons which I grew up with. I only drew her a few times. At one point I took a whack at redesigning her but nothing stuck. This is how she looks in my mind.
DUNK
My friend dirty-bird and I had an AU of our characters as Pokemon that eventually spiraled out into her world of Compass Point so I had a few pokemon NPCs here and there during that time and eventually decided to make a self insert! This is from 2019. I had long since stopped giving a shit about being "taken seriously". I made him a retro style vaporeon and enjoyed getting artwork of him. He's got a flirty side my other sonas don't really have and I think that's fun. He's also very dumb but lovable. I haven't uploaded a ton of artwork of him. Most of it is hidden away in my 'dirty' sketchbooks haha. I still use him to this day! He has a arcanine/mightyena cross girlfriend.
CRASH.EXE
Crash surfaced RIGHT as Crownless took a nosedive in 2020. I was exploring the world of petplay and discovering how people had a pupspace sona and I had like this weird crisis where I was like "I cant be a person pretending to be a deer who is pretending to be a dog THATS TOO DEEP NOBODY WILL UNDERSTAND. This thought exercise led me into imagining having a canine fursona again for the first time in over a decade and the idea stuck with me outside my kinkspace exploration.
What if I just Returned To Doge?
I thought hard about it and started doodling. At first, Crash was a boarder collie looking dog but I couldn't get the markings I wanted without making the face too complicated. Maybe one day I'll scan these early drafts. I forced myself to simplify and simplify and color picked from some vaporwave images. I came up with the idea that Crash was a farm dog that somehow got sucked into the internet and could turn bright colors when happy. Eventually the emotions=colors thing got dropped but the fact that Crash came in different colors stayed. I also developed the lineart blur aesthetic while trying to find a way to make the design more vaporwave. My earliest iterations were very Easter colored. The blur helped. I included it in Crash's story but pretty often now days I forget to draw it haha. I eventually started dual track drifting Crash and Crownless and that rolled into them being in a relationship. I use Crash currently, both anthro and feral forms.
THE LITTLE WIZARD
Originally created as The Quesadilla Wizard, this orange girl was actually born when I made an attempt to mix Crash and Crownless together in my head in a complicated mental AMV to the song Sine From Above by Lady Gaga and Elton John. She was a "secret" fursona for a little bit before I finally decided to share her. She was a unique made up animal. Her transformation gimmick didn't manifest until later when i was doing more research on breaking into the niche art market. This was in 2022. The Wizard was there and I grabbed her and decided she can be the cause of all the random TF I liked to draw. She isn't really a sona any more since I created the rest of the Kinky Coven for her to interact with.
OODLE
Oodle was created last year. 2023 is the year I started experimenting with alcohol and edibles. I have had...varying experiences. BUT YOU KNOW. It's a thing you have to learn to navigae safely. Anyway one night I was stoned and thinking ab out things to look up on google images because thats one of my favorite things to do while high and while in a discord call I suddenly shouted JEWELS!! I WANT TO SEE PICTURES OF JEWELS!!! and my friend was like 'haha Wolfy just turned into a dragon' and thus Oodle was born.
The first pass (the little green one) on him was bits taken from an older design I had doodled years ago of a sea serpent. I used this sona for a little bit in doodles but the design just wasn't resonating with me. It was the hair. As soon as I replaced the hair with some more Flight of Dragons-like whisker prong thingies, it fit so much better. I wasn't in love with the green either though and I wanted to make his silhouette a little more unique. I actually only colored the newer version of Oodle for the first time today. The stripes were a suggestion from a friend. I like them! I also changed Oodle from being tiny to being a big dragon like Dessy was. I think it would be fun to draw him interacting with Crash and Crownless but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
AND THATS IT. Well, there were like...these three identical eevee girls that I didnt draw but they didnt last long enough to be a Thing. This is the most solid timeline. Who knows if I'll have more fursonas in the future?
BYE FOR NOW.

Always fun to look back at the transformations we go through! And nice to see the background for the ones I recognize. :3
I wonder what this would look like in another 20 years!
I'm betting on 1.5x as large and with lots more colors. But who knows!
Seeing this lineup is so cool! And after reading the description I have thoughts- Like... from my outsider perspective I def "see you" more as certain sonas that I'm more familiar with if that makes sense. But I also totally understand how there's a piece of you in each of these designs! I also love how your enjoyment of a specific thing often created a whole being from nothing XD
Also I'm curious about the varied heights here. Do you think connect more with bigger or smaller characters, or ones that are close to your irl height? Or do you just go with whatever makes sense for the character design?

Aw thank you, Tree!
Honestly, the character heights are just what made sense in my brain at the time.

There's a decided sine wave to the Long Noodley forms. Noodle varies periodically over time, up and down.
