Ooh, that was a great book, but I think Momo was better. I really wish they'd make a movie of that.
They did make a movie of it in 1986, actually! And it's a really good one in my opinion. Momo is one of my alltime fav books, and the movie is one of those rare ones that capture a book story well. :)

The entire film, dubbed in English, is on YouTube. Not linking because I'm sure it's violating all kinds of copyright being there. But you can find it pretty easily with the year.
Sadly the movie covers only the first half of the book.
Though the beginning of the second half was impossible to do back then.

Uh, no? The movie got the whole story from beginning to ending (with only few minor details and scenes cut away). Maybe there are different movies of that book. The one I linked is very much complete.
The first movie follows the story of the first half of the book and does some changes in the end so the movie has an ending. The second half of the book was how Bastian rebuilds Fantasia, what happens afterwards and explains why it is the Neverending Story. Hint, in the end of the book Bastian returns the Neverending Story to the bookseller who remarks that it isn't his book and hints that he once was a boy that read the Neverending Story himself.
The two sequels had little to nothing to do with the story of the book.

You're welcome! :) Enjoy the movie.
Fun fact: The author himself, Michael Ende, plays a new side-role in this movie in the beginning as a passenger in a train (who is told the story by Master Hora and writes it down). Apparently, he was unhappy about the movie version based on Neverending Story, and requested to be involved more when filming Momo. And I think Momo turned out great!
