wait...loopy de loop...AS A MALE?! GROSS! EWWWWWW!!! HE IS NOT A MAN, HE IS A GIRL!! EWWWWWW! GUYS, YUK!
no, i am not over jellystone's idea of "celebrating old characters" and i wont be anytime soon. he was created male, so. he is male. why is that so hard to accept today?
and yes, i know the show is not canon, i know jellystone is an alternate version of the hb universe... but, it was sold to us as a HOMAGE to these characters...well, if they sold VELMA as a tribute of scooby doo universe...yeah, jellystone is actually good, compared to velma.
ANYWAYS, i had a freakin blast drawing this pic. and man, GO ASK MEKAL ABOUT THE CONCEPT BEHIND IT, HE WENT AWESOME CRAZY WITH IT.

same way jellystone got 3 seasons...THEY JUST DONT CARE.
I love the original Loopy so much.
The Jellystone version of Loopy on the other hand has ZERO charm or likeability. Them being a hot-headed criminal who robs banks and steals out of cash registers COMPLETELY goes against who Loopy was originally supposed to be and represent.

loopy de loop represented all people outcasted because of their looks, all people judged by their appearance. whoever says hb characters are empty and shallow, has no clue how subtlety works.
jellystone's loopy...a thief....i mean, they made the banana splits criminal, and kidnappers...seriously, why modern authrosd hate old cartoons so much? and worst part is, they cant even create a new thing we all can enjoy. and yes, i know jellystone was created byt the creator of chowder, a very overrated show, if you ask me. whjo claims to be a fan of hanna barbera...then he gets this amazing chance, and all he does is bad jokes and sex changes? jellystone is at the same level as he man revelations in terms of being mean spirited towards the fans of a franchise of characters.

Absolutely. I'm not even against the idea of a new Hanna-Barbera show if you're at least going to be faithful to the original characters and/or present them in a more interesting light, like what they did in The Looney Tunes Show for instance.
While Greenblatt's takes on some of these beloved characters may be different, they aren't exactly an "improvement" upon the original characters. Plus, Jellystone as a whole just feels like really BAD Hanna-Barbera fanfiction to me. Fuck, the first episode is literally just vore fetish fanfiction on crack. Not to mention the humor within the show (from much of what I've seen and heard) is also immature, insipid, and like you said, mean-spirited at times.
It just frustrates the fuck out of me, and I don't think enough people are pissed off about it.

trust me, the comedy of jellystone is lame, bland and intentionally not funny.
i mean, turn the banana splits into criminals just because internet says they suck....yeah, that is the level of "homage" the creator of chowder brings to the table
and this thing has 3 seasons so far....

I wonder if Cartoon Network looked at the longevity of Teen Titans Go, and thought "yeah, all of our future cartoons should follow their example". I hate to bring that show up because of how much of a punching bag it's been for years and has been able to continuously thrive off of negative attention in response its own obnoxious immature "humor" (in addition to the show just embracing such bitter hostile unapologetic contempt for the audience), but it's also not a completely implausible theory.
at this point. networks just dont care, as long as there is something to air, they will. and people frankly lost any sort of good taste. i mean, if crap like jellystone and velma have actual ratings...then why bother? this is the main consequence of SO BAD IT'S GOOD culture. youtubers have spent years promoting and reviewing crappy contents for the lols, and actually made people start to like that crap, to the point where movies are intentionally being made to be crap, sharknado, for example?
public's criteria on media has lowered to terrible standards, crap like family guy or invincible are labeled as DARING, BREAKTHROUGH AND INNOVATIVE. family guy is a cesspool of racist jokes and offensive humor and invincible is nothing but animated gore porn disguised as superhero deconstruction, bron from one of the lamest, blandest and crappiest comics ever. same goes for the boys, another series everybody loves, for reasons they dont even know. internet tells them it's good, then they go and consume. and hey, i understand, TASTE IS LIKE ASSES, EVERYBODY HAS ONE. but...people praising crap like those series, the way they do. and then we lose amazing works like OVER THE GARDEN WALL, MINDHUNTER and so many others...yeah. somehting is very wrong about people's criteria when it comes to entertainment media.
as long as they get the bare minimum of people watching their shows, they will keep making them. and crap like jellystone will continue to exist, and to be praised by people that frankly, does not know anything better.

Unfortunately, that's very much true. These days everyone is more concerned with quantity than quality, not just in animation but in the entertainment industry as a whole.
Every new big expensive "blockbuster film" keeps bombing again and again and again AND AGAIN, because movie studios don't care about the quality of their films anymore. They just care about spectacle, and just want to shill what was previously successful. Now it's gotten to the point where movie theaters are now just showing older films, because of how many newer big budget films have failed at the box office and because of how fewer new mainstream films there are with the strike and all. Disney is just as much to blame for basically wanting to ruin just about every fucking beloved animated film by turning them into shittier "live-action versions" for no real reason other than for fucking money.
The music industry is also in a similar rabbit hole, where a lot of talented bands and artists get very small recognition and get paid fuck-all, and big-name celebrities in the music industry can drop an album and have every song on that album chart high on Billboard regardless of whether or not the music itself is absolute garbage. Then there's also the trope of "modernizing" older hit songs into newer lazier shittier songs because TikTok numbers and familiarity will reach the widest audience apparently, but really it's steeping to a new low of creative bankruptcy.
I don't think all future media/entertainment is COMPLETELY doomed, but everyone should be DOING better, and the fact that the standards are so low nowadays just depresses the fuck out of me. I really hope we can bounce back one day.

Generally, I tend to like even the most divisive adaptations of characters, with like Velma being the ONLY exception.
velma is not adaptation, is self insert, done wrong.
velma makes helluva boss look like over the garden wall in comparison.
