This is my pumpkin patch. Having grandchildren brought back my love of gardening, so I thought, why not do pumpkins?
Looking at you from behind the fence is someone who earned the same name because - well - there she was. Every morning our raccoon neighbors show up to the back door for cookies, which we hand to them like they were trick or treating. They are so very polite and it never fails to give us a smile. I then take them peanuts, cheese doodles, and cookies for breakfast. We have a little bit of everything back here as it's a nature preserve, but the raccoons are by far the friendliest.

I live in the suburbs of a major city, my only visitors are pigeons and flies lol. It would be nice to have more variety in my local wildlife!
Also I have a garden too, but it's all in shopping carts for easy movement lol

*smiles... I was speaking to a person the other day, and he said he uses his fish tank to grow tomatoes. He got the idea from Disney's EPCOT 'The Land' where they showed aquaponic gardening. He too lives in an apartment.

lol! Trash Panda! 😁
Your pumpkin is already blooming?
We got snow last weekend, can’t even think about planting yet. 😡

Yes... my brother has that same problem, but I live in Florida so basically can garden year round...

Don't let those sad eyes fool you! They're working you!
Oh yes... and they work it so good too. We actually give them names, and sometimes I can recognize them. Teeny and Tiny, for instance, are brother and sister and always begin in the tree near the feeder. Teeny always gets a moonpie. Lefty comes out from the left side of the fence and is still shy. Cookie comes from the center/right, and she'll almost sit in my lap.
Grumpy, on the other paw, tries to run everyone else off, though she's civil to me. I noticed this morning she has ninnies, so she probably has kits or is about to.
I love them all...

I'd gladly trade you for a bunch of my neighbors...
the only neighbors I get are deer, we had a tourist the likes of which were that of a fox, but never seen one since. Was told that a vixen with her skulk of kits lived in the sewer for a bit before they moved out.
we also have deer and supposedly foxes, but I haven't seen any of the foxes yet...

Maybe one day, just wait; the sneaky cuties evade you for a while, but you'll meet one eventually.
We use to feed them on our back porch until too many fights and too much damage. Now we feed them off the lower back porch but only a few times a month and always variable in when so there's no set schedule. This way they kinda know to check but they don't hang around 24-7 like they did before. Also got them a watering spot that they enjoy.... as do the deer and the fox and the possums and the skunks and even those evil armadillos. :-| We got the deer a mineral block this year and it's already gone. We'll get another for the summer.
sounds a lot like us Theo... we have a routine, but in the morning when the food is gone they go their way. Once in a while we have one or two show up in the afternoon but just for cookies...
yes - we also have a mineral salt block, and a daily bowl of corn...

Cool. We try to do the food according to seasons and critters. Like, in the spring (mating season) they're pretty busy elsewhere so we don't put out much at all. In the heat of the summer it's more about water than food but we do both. In the fall it's time to feed the winter critters (squirrels and other simi-hibernators) so they can get their stores filled. Hummers in spring and fall. Bird food when it's bad weather. We prefer to think of what we do as a 'bonus help' to their natural lives... not to be something they constantly depend on but can lean on when they wish/need. Besides... with all the sweet raccoons and such comes things like bears... of which we had one wandering up the UPPER deck of our back porch not long ago when mom was home alone. Scary.
I commend you... that is very much a plan. We've only had one bear. We caught him on the camera, and I brought the deer feeder in for a time after that.

Raccoons are cool. My mate and I used to feed them when they came around, and yes, they were very friendly.
Our philosophy was that if we fed the raccoons and kept them happy, they would stay out of our vegetable garden, and it worked. They were fun to have around.

it's the squirrels who are most destructive to my sunflowers... they like to laugh at me, but I get my digs back at them too occasionally...

Are they very vocal? I don't think I'd mind if one or two came around my house, but I'd love it if they 'talked' to me.
I wish that too... mostly I hear them growl, which is their language. That just means they're a bit unsure. A few will greet me with a sniff to the hand. If they could speak one word, I'm sure it would be, 'cookie'.

So adorable! I love it so much when there's friendship instead of fear between the species
You're like my mom feeding the birds. And the chipmunks. And the squirrels. And the ducks. And the ground hog.
We had a kit join our feral cats, they were making their way into the world and found an easy weigh station with dry food and water our TNRs shared with them. The little one would line up for chow chow with the cats and it was a pleasure watching them eat with those little hands.
