If someone were to ask Rakant (and probably Takaani too) what their greatest creation was, he would tell them it was the hot spring within his lair. It had taken days of hard work carving out the chamber from scratch within the mountain, days more to route clean water, and even more to channel a deep magma stream in just the right way with a bit of ethereal enchanting to heat the water just enough to be soothing instead of boiling. Other than their bed-chamber, the hotspring was probably the most used room in the lair!
It was a quiet evening, and both Rakant and Takaani had spent the last few months working hard to protect and grow Muir'Beinn. When the dragons converged back together in the Rahfar lair, it was always nice to just take time and relax in the hot spring. Takaani was half-submerged, carefully reading through an old tome that she purchased from a trader coming from Ves'Nola... something about alchemical growth properties of particular fungi and it's medicinal components under the right circumstances. The book had been transcribed, but the cover remains in it's native (although dead) language. 'Fungal Findings by Ferrus Freeman.'
To fully enjoy the heat that the spring provides, Rakant frequently submerged himself entirely beneath the water, allowing himself to become lost in the dull rumble of the rushing and roiling of the water. When he did emerge, he lazily tossed himself halfway across the hot spring's rim with a wide yawn, settling down with his foreleg propped beneath his neck. His eyes glanced up at Takaani, a soft thrumm given to show his affection, and then he closed his eyes.
Tagging along with the dragons and searching for something to occupy their attention, Baba found themself upon a large leaf that floated in a pool of draining water. The small dandegryph amused themself with their ability to float without touching the water for a time, that is, until the leaf reached a small drain. The water created a vortex, which caused the leaf to spin when caught! Baba suddenly began to see a 360 degree view of the chamber... again... and again... until eventually the leaf slid away from the drain and Baba found themself free from the vortex... but the room still spinning a bit despite her stationary self. Dizzy!
Takaani, amused, settled her chin down onto the rim alongside Rakant with half-lidded eyes, lavishing in the moment. The book could wait, serenity called for the storm dragon to bask in the warmth and love of this moment. A whisker trailed outwards to carefully brush against the top of Rakant's snout, which earned a soft rumble in reply. Together the two dragons and Baba enjoyed the hot spring for a few more hours, until duty, hunger, or curiosity drew them elsewhere.
This BEAUTIFUL piece was done by none other than BlackBlueBlaze who went above and beyond for us. faluma commissioned this as essentially an early birthday present to us. We share the same birthday! It's both convenient and weird! I stole this story from him, so you should absolutely check out his version. If Blackwing ever uploads this anywhere, I'll link that here too.
