The new trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King just dropped!
I had this fan art sitting unfinished in my pc for a while, so I finished this today and just an hour later, the Lion King trailer was published. And let me say: I LOVE IT.
I am happy that the animals look much more expressive, the animation in this looks realistic, but still have a bit more life into it, more than I felt in the 2019 remake.
And the best part? Songs composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I kind of suspected it, but I jumped with excitement when I saw his name on the screen. I love his music and his performances and I don't think I'll sleep until this hits theaters in December.
What do you think about the trailer?
What do you think about the concept of Mufasa and Scar are not actually related?
It's not what I am used to after all these years of fanmade stories and comics all over the internet, but honestly, I'm looking so much forward to it. I am open-minded and really hyped.

I admit that I am intrigued by this film, even though I have really detested Disney these last several years. I have always wanted a prequel to TLK in the original animation style and I will likely go see it.
I'm actually all for Mufasa and Scar not being biological brothers, because that was actually my own head canon. I think in the original concepts/drafts of the film, they were not going to be brothers, and then changed it later on. It makes sense because physically, Scar and Mufasa look nothing alike. They certainly don't look like biological brothers.
The only thing I dislike about this is that they are going along with the Simba's Pride storyline by having Kiara there. To this day I do not consider Simba's Pride to be canon. I have a real passionate dislike for that film because TLK deserved far better than a direct to video sequel, where none of of the original storyboard writers, production team, or animators from the first film were even involved in it, which is why I don't even consider it canon. That is completely ignoring the fact that Simba and Nala obviously had a male cub at the end of the first film if you go by the established fur coloring rules for male and female lions. Even my Skybox cards refer to that cub as a son.

I completely agree that the traditional 2D animation would be really cool to see. And I would definitely go for that rather than for the "live action". I always liked The Lion King 2, however, the animation and music wasn't good so I definitely understand your opinion. Well, if they can establish an interesting story, I think it might work even with Kiara. I heard the cub in the end of TLK 1 was "the genderless "Fluffy" and basically didn't have any purpose than to finish the circle of life in the end, because they didn't count on with a sequel. But yes, it always bothered me too. :D
Well, I feel very conflicted about the animation style. The animations look incredibly amazing, and there are some really cool action scenes in the trailer.
But…
It just doesn’t feel like the Lion King. We know the characters to be drawn in that classic Disney style, so presenting us with photorealistic animals makes it feel very confusing. Personally, I feel like I am watching the trailer for a nature documentary not a Disney movie.

Yes, that is true. Nothing can beat the classic film and the classic animation. However, I think it slightly improved from the 2019 remake, also heard that on D23 there was shown a bit different footage with more animal interactions in the film and people said it was kinda better..? I would rather have more stylized animation, I still couldn't say 100% which lion was which character in the trailer, and I think that is really bad for a kids' film :D
I love Your picture, and what Mufasa is saying embraces the new storyline while not rejecting established canon.
I am very excited for the movie, but I am apprehensive. Mufasa and Scar not being Brothers by blood makes Scar's Murder of Mufasa (and attempted murder of Simba,(Slightly)) less reprehensible.
If this new storyline is setting up Scar as a sympathetic Villain, by giving Scar the excuse to see Mufasa as a Usurper of His Throne, Letting Him be able to justify (To Himself) The Murder of His Brother and Nephew by being able to make the excuse that They are not even related and Therefore not Family is a slap in the face to the original movie and a disservice to Mufasa and Scar as characters.
However with this being The CGI Universe I can tolerate some creative changes and see how They play out.
If this movie was set in the continuity of The Original Lion King Universe I'd be far less accepting of these changes and very angry at the possibility of where I think the story might go.
I just hope that People remember that The CGI Universe is a separate continuity from Our Beloved 2D Original and don't start confusing backstories and lore The way They did with Sleeping Beauty when Maleficent cam out.
Also this Mufasa movie better not try to claim to be the truth to The 1994 Lion King's Fiction.
I can't believe Disney tried to say The Story of Sleeping Beauty was a lie told to discredit Maleficent and The Maleficent movie was the truth.
Disney should have been ashamed to spit on Their legacy like that.

Thanks for liking my artwork♥ And yes, I totally agree with what you say! The original 1994 film was clear, Scar was a villain who deserved no justification for what he did. I don't like it when Disney tries to point out that the villain is just "misunderstood". Scar is a great and beloved character even without this. So I hope it won't be a movie in that vein, and that Barry Jenkins will at least give us a solid story on a solid foundation. And to be honest, I am mostly looking forward to the music.
