Commission - Anzazi of Kenya - The New Mother
I was commissioned by an anthropologist friend of mine who works in maternal health for the University of British Columbia - she lived with a number of pregnant women in Africa, documenting their lives and taking note of their diets. She provided me photos she took and asked me to turn them into an illustration to accompany her written stories for each woman (which I unfortunately can't post - at least, not yet) - this is Anzazi of Kenya, 19 years old, 5 months pregnant, and expecting her first child. She makes a 15 minute walk carrying 45 pounds of water nearly every day!

My extended family actually adopted a girl from Kenya in some sort of exchange program, hah.
Oh, wow! Actual adoption, or just sponsored? Have you met her?
I think it was more of a sponsorship thing...? Happened when i was young. i was TOLD it was an adoption, lol. And yeah, i met her. were pals, lol
Goddamn, this is gorgeous as hell! And it isn't even floof related! You really did an outstanding job on this ^^
Thank you so much <3 Heh, yeah, not much opportunity for floofs in this series at all, unless you count chickens or goats...
Oh don't worry, I'm sure you'll make up for it later with Pet arts lol
This is gorgeous work! Her clothes are so incredibly vibrant! I love how you've handled the mash-up of scenes from her daily life.
I just hope the FA admins don't get upset because there's no furry content. They've been known to in the past, I believe.

Thank you so much! I wanted to keep a lot of the sepia/aged parchment look, but use colours to make certain parts of the image pop, particularly the "main character" :)
I've never really had a problem with that, personally - I think my watchers know I'll post a variety of content, thankfully! Also, I've seen/know of a number of folks on the site who are quite interested in African life, and not just from the animal perspective, so hopefully they'll like this :)

Oh my goodness - absolutely stunning work! It gives a wonderful depiction of the things she does in daily life as well as the culture and environment. I love how her vibrant dress colours stand out in every depiction of her during the day. What a neat honour to get to do this sort of work; the story reminds me of our former neighbour, Kerry Ferris (https://www.embassyculturalhouse.ca.....ry-ferris.html), who also went to Africa (and other neat places) to see the culture and lives of people as part of the inspiration for her work.
Yeah - I'd love to give more biographical details but it hasn't been okay'ed by Maggie's supervisor yet. And I'm so glad you like my decision to make her beautiful clothing stand out - their clothing is so colourful, and I thought it a great way to make the "main character" stand out :)
