Spring, 1331
Mera was a young whelp again, uneasily looking for something he had lost in the infinite white void surrounding him.
*Mera!* A familiar voice called out.
The bronze dragon turned in shock to see Theragmorth, also as a dragonling. Mera had never seen the copper dragon as a whelp, yet it was clearly his energetic friend.
*Therga!* The bronze dragon replied joyfully.
The copper dragon was as eager and enthusiastic as ever.
*Wanna play?*
*Sure!*
*You’re it!* Thergamorth bapped Mera on the snout before taking off. *Try and catch me, you fat gryphon!*
The two young whelps proceeded to chase each other, wrestle and fly around each other, running in circles for what seemed like hours; finally, both were out of energy and collapsed happily into a pile.
*That was fun!* Mera laughed, breathing heavily.
Thergamorth lay atop the bronze and twisted his tail. *Yep! I’m glad we can play a bit more.*
*Well, we can play again tomorrow, and the day after!*
Thergamorth looked up and slowly shook his head. *Oh I don’t know about that, at least we had this final game.*
The bronze dragon stopped and looked at his companion curiously. *What does that mean?*
*Therga! Time to go!* A mysterious voice came out from the aether.
Thergamorth suddenly got to his feet. *Sorry Mera, I need to leave.* He told his friend.
The bronze dragon was shocked, and immediately scrambled up as well. *Wait! We’re not done playing!*
His copper companion was still smiling, but there was a tinge of sadness to it as he spread his wings and launched himself into the air. *I have to go. Sorry Mera. I probably won’t see you again.*
*Why?*
*I have to. It’s the way things go in this world. People have to go. You have to let go sometimes.*
*No!* The bronze dragon went after his friend. *My mom and brother left as well, I don’t want anyone else to leave! I don’t want to be alone!*
Theragmorth called back, a voice far wiser than before. *As long as you remember me, I will be around. As long as you remember your mother and brother, they will be around. Remember that. Try to understand that. Protect your friends and family as much as you can. Cherish them. Honor them. But when they go, understand they need to go. Our friendship is special because it is so fleeting.*
*Come back!* The young bronze whelp chased after his companion. The copper had always been faster however, and soon began disappearing into the aether. *Don’t leave…* Mera’s pursuit became increasingly frantic.
Just as the bronze dragon was about to lose sight of his companion, Theragmorth stopped. An adult copper dragon turned and gave back a sad little smile.
*Goodbye Mera. I am honored to have been your friend.*
And then Theragmorth turned again and was gone.
Meratezatgh woke up in a cold sweat. Breathing hard, the wyrm looked around in panic. All around, other wounded dragons slept in a pasture of a monastery occupied by the Tassurian Army. The night breeze brought the distant sounds of night combat from the front line fifty miles away, but otherwise all was quiet. Gradually calming down, the bronze dragon fell back with a sigh. He felt like prey trapped between two hungry predators, one ahead and one behind. Both would consume him in an instant. How could he escape? Where could he flee? What was the difference between these two monsters?
Well, one of them killed his friend Thergamorth.
Mera shook his head. The other led the copper dragon directly down the road to his death. And Theragamorth knew it, before Mera even did. The vice was closing, and soon it would likely take Mera as well.
Unless he could navigate that narrow path out.
The bronze dragon brooded in the darkness. Survival. Self preservation. For his friend's memory, Meratezatgh would try to find that path.

How many traumas a dragon can hold during their life time...
Poor Mera has a good headstart on that =/

I think it's a testament to... something... that Mera hasn't gone completely batty by the end of all this.
Damn...the pic made me think it would be a lighthearted story
No need to be sorry, I have plenty of gruesome stories too
