There's a reason I don't post as many opinion pieces anymore.
Oh, don't worry, I still have lots of opinions. I'm just getting too old and tired to deal with the consequences anymore.

This is why the block button exists, the cream will rise to the top.
While I use block sparingly, I'm a big proponent of 'block for whatever reason you want'. It's an online space not a town hall. You're here to enjoy yourself and you're not obligated to be a captive audience to anyone you don't want to.
And out of habit I just reached for some sort of a Like/Reblog button for this.

Ha! Wat until you're as old as I am. I'm realizing that anyone I don't agree with is essentially a clown -- and their opinions aren't important to me. Narrow-minded? Sure, but peace of mind can be cheap, too.
I don’t think that will be me. I tend to, in spite of the intensity I beat my drum at, still try and see people in 3D rather than 2D whenever possible. I can’t help but ask myself what got them where they are and what angle they’re seeing things from, as it rarely happens in a vacuum.
There's been a growing trend of people hating the fact that not everyone has the same thoughts as them.
Such as having an opinion and being dogpiled by an unrelated group.

Something I think we don’t factor in is that unlike opinions stated in real life, opinions put online can travel much farther. More people have access to the opinions OF more people than during any previous time in human history. You can, for better or worse, see into so many more lives than our ancestors could.
True, but also there's a point where it becomes unnecessary.
Like if you say you like waffles you don't need to know that someone choked on one or that they lost their arm in a waffle contest, but it varies.

And I think people are, on some level, aware of that and that's exactly why they're so afraid of letting "wrong" opinions go uncontested. Why, someone naive and impressionable might see that and think it's right!
I wouldn't mind the argument part if it didn't always turn hostile or feel like it was a moment away from turning hostile. Having genuine back and forth discussions are great.
I get it, the older you get the more you realize it gets drowned out by hordes of bots and people with louder voices anyway even if their wrong. I just wanna pay my bills and put food on the table in peace.
I also think that there's a lot less discussion than there used to be. Or perhaps it just seems like it, and a lot of people subsisted by not knowing what people thought on certain topics... a lot of things were private. I don't know that it's necessarily better that way.. but it ain't super great now
I like being opinionated and arguing. I just don't think 99% of things are worth it.
I'll second that.
What gets me is there are so many people who are opinionated and love to express their opinions, but if you dare to challenge any of those opinions they go ballistic. In other words, the love to dish it out, but they can't take it.
I generally don't block people, either (except under the most extreme circumstances). If they don't have anything worthwhile to say, I'll just ignore them.

God the Second Life episodes of Monster Factory were amazing
I'd argue with you more, but I seldom see an opinion you post I don't agree with, or at least, don't have feelings about to bother you with!
Live and let live, agree to disagree a trait that is really easy to adopt cause not everything doesn't need to be an affirmation of self.
