In life, Malachi was a contract killer in the late 80's to early 90's. He was...exceptionally good at it and earned a good living shedding blood. Off duty, he had hobbies of the culinary variety and listened to music of all sorts, he even knows how to play guitar. However during a contract, a fire broke out during the gunfight and during the inferno, the child of his target was trapped and he threw the kid clear of the warehouse. However, he died via a combination of impalement through the chest via a beam and immolation. Soon enough, he manifested in Hell and found he possessed the ability to conjure and control green 'Hell Flames' that he could shape into chains, crude blades, and did what he did best in life to make a living for himself in Hell. For the years he was active in hell since then and his fury, brutality, and killing efficiency earned him a reputation and one of his more infamous nicknames of the 'Lion of Wrath'. Many feared him, some respected him, a small few revered him. In terms of power, some compare him to an overlord without followers and he never formed contracts with any demon, or even contracts of his own. But strangely, one day he stopped and fell off the radar for a year or two.


Then one day, in a single night, he brutally butchered an ENTIRE CRIME FAMILY of demons by himself in a single night and vanished for 6 years but then, one day, he bore witness to the fateful news broadcast of the Hazbin Hotel and against his better judgement, decided to go and attempt redemption. Granted, his arrival was met with...less than stellar fanfare, but Charlie accepted him into her door none the less. Malachi was withdrawn most of the time and VERY guarded, but Charlie and the Hotel Crew wore down his walls and he became more open. Charlie even discovered that he was an excellent cook and was asked to be the Hotel's cook, to which he agreed. He offered cooking lessons to any who wished to join him. Vaggie and Mal would grow a mutual respect for each other. Angel Dust & Malachi would become good friends (with the occasional flirting on Angel's part much to Mal's slight annoyance). Husk and Malachi would become drinking buddies while he would always have an eye on Nifty...just in case. Alastor and Malachi have a VERY tenuous relationship but put on an amicable front in front of Charlie. Malachi and Charlie on the other hand have an interesting dynamic. Charlie really does want to help Malachi, showing a great concern when he mentioned to her he feels he doesn't 'deserve redemption', and does everything in her power to prove him wrong. Malachi on the other hand, finds Charlie endearing and even mentions he reminds her of someone 'he lost a while back' and swears he'll protect her and her Hotel as well as all within. As for the mystery of his absence and who this someone is? Well, within the locket he always wears and is VERY PROTECTIVE of is a picture of him with a female moth demon and a name...Beatrice.
