Hmn, well there are cases of mentally handicapped people desiring normal lives like everyone else, I've seen cases of them consenting,getting married and even having children, granted it's difficult for them but I've seen them do their best to do all the things anyone else would do.

Oh, well you'll have to forgive me for not knowing about their desperate attempts to break the stigma, since I don't watch the show. They're certainly not doing themselves any favors by naming it, "Friendship is Magic."

From what I've read, the official word is that she's still going to be a background character. It's just that her appearances are going to be planned out in advance, whereas in Season 1, they just added her in post-production after picking up on her apparent popularity in the fandom.

I just hope she talks more at some point, that'll make me happy. Haha.

There are several interpretations of the character. So far, canon Derpy has been portrayed one time as a little clumsy, and most of the time having a normal social life, aside from just having the derpy eyes.

Fanon Derpy has been portrayed as sometimes being mentally challenged and other times as maybe just a bit ditzy, but still quite clever (like that time she broke through Carrot Top's refrigerator locks to get to the muffins inside) and usually good at her job, if not the best, as the town mailmare. Also sometimes portrayed as caring mother of Dinky Doo.

I wouldn't think there would be so much room for interpretation of a character. She's just not well developed in the show, I'm guessing?

I'd consider this a re-color alteration, tracing has such a negative connotation to it. When most people see the word "trace" they forget or ignore the work beyond what was traced. Besides, recoloring or modifying an image pretty much requires a colorist to trace the image unless they're a software master.
